Mountain Biking - $87 per pound!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Finally weighed my new build at the LBS.
Only $87 per pound! This was better than I expected. A custom build with carbon juicys, Chris King, XT, SID, Race Face, Mavic, and Thomson all for $2K and tipping the scales at only 22.9 pounds. Man I love eBay.
Anyone else care to do the math and see if their bike is more expensive than caviar?

Salsa's might weigh in at $125/lb. Dang, it can only go up.

i don't like to think about how much i have spent.
Hmmm, approximately $5,000 - $5,500 for a 22 pound dually. Not sure how much but I'm betting it's a lot!

Lowcel, you simply HAVE to find a hobby.

I'm just glad we aren't talking about how much I have spent on my roadies lately. :o
Do you live in a "no division zone" or something?
You have to keep in mind I'm from West (by god) Virginia. I could ask my uncle dad to do it for me, he's much smarter than me. He's actually one grade ahead of me in school this year. My sister (mom) is pretty smart too, but I try not to bother her when she's getting ready to have a baby. It sure will be nice having another brother (nephew) running around the trailer.

Trailer? I thought you had a shack out in the holler like me!

Uncle Jesse over at the bank / beer joint wouldn't approve my loan. Whenever I couldn't be sure of my momma's maiden name he told me to take a hike. I took him in a copy of our family tree but he just made fun of me and said it looked more like a family phone pole than a tree. I just don't understand. You would think he would have been a little nicer to his little brother.
not to hijack or anything,
Lowcel, I was reading recently that there is a possibility of massive trail closures in WV due to either developments moving in along a new section of highway, or a national park going to to prevent the development.
Are you familiar with this? I'd be interested to know what the current situation is as the article I read was slightly dated.

From what I understand the areas they are talking about don't really even have any trails on them. At least none that I have heard of. I'm pretty sure the NC boys know more about this since it is going on in their neck of the woods as well. Apclassic could probably give some more detail as well.
ok. the article said there was around 100 miles at stake which would be a huge bummer to lose that much trail.

Google does arithmetic.
Hey, no thread-jacking!
I want more praise for sub 23 pound $2K bike. I realized I forgot to say in the OP that this is a hardtail and a steel one at that. Which-- either makes me look very old or just plain stupid, but I can handle both. Everything except the SID's was new, however, they were rebuilt.

Does K-Mart still exist? I thought they all closed down. There are no more K-marts in my part of Canada.
(quietly thread-jacking for no good reason)
I'm not seeing anything that's praiseworthy. I guess I'm more of a fan of riding bikes, rather than the shopping, or weighing, part that some folks get all hot and bothered about.
(Special note: I also don't high five the 300 pound women in noisy polyester pants who out rumbles the rest of the herd down the aisle to get the 2-for-1 blue light special on toilet bowl cleaner at Kmart)
You mean I am supposed to ride it?

I think what you're talking about is a US Forestry plan to declare a big chunk of Cheat Mountain as a wilderness zone. It is a wilderness zone already, for all intents - no trails there. Last I heard, The plan that the Forestry service was leaning toward does not close any existant trails, and actually opens a few areas up... but then, a plan is just a plan, and Congress can take it under consideration and do whatever the heck they want.
The other thing that comes to mind is a several hundred acre parcel of land across the river from the New River Gorge National Parkland area which is supposedly under construction with something like 300 homes going up. That is in court, with the NPS challenging the landowner's right to build. Of course, the NPS has had the right to purchase the land for the last 2 decades, and did nothing. Anyway, no trails there, either.
There are some links somewhere on the IMBA site which may have more up to date info on all of this. WVMBA has made thier voice clear (thanks, Matt Marcus!) at hearings and on Capitol Hill, and has also educated many local businesses which had originally 'signed' on with the Highlands Conservation-Whatever-they-call themselves - who are proponents of closing all sorts of land to everyone.

Ah, Pete, we're talking WV - the Thundering Herd is after the gallon size containers of lard on sale. No one, I repeat, NO ONE uses toilet bowl cleaner in an outhouse!
From the internet:
"Mountain biking usually refers to the sport of riding bicycles"
It would seem that the answer is "yes."
But then it might get dirty or God forbid-- weigh even more. No thanks. I'm just going to sit and look at it.

good thing you clarified that. I was beginning to think all you did was hang around on the forums being an uber dick. It is a relief to know that you take your dicktastikness off the net sometimes.

the k-mart by me closed (not that i am mad) but i went to one in colorado last summer
In WV K-mart and wal-marts are the few things that you can count on being around. I can't stand going in either of them.

We have Wal-Mart and a Canadian chain that is a lot like Target called Zellers. That's Zellers with a 'zed'. We also have Canadian Tire.
