View Full Version : Houston to Austin MS150 - Do they allow substitutions?
I have a friend who was registered to ride in the Houston to Austin MS150 be asked to be in a wedding, so he is not going to be riding. Anyone know if the MS150 allows substitutions? I'd like to facilitate someone taking his spot if it is possible.
I couldn't find the info on their website, and last time I submitted a question to them it took about 3 weeks to get a reply.

Just do it! With 13k people, if you pay the money and get the rider number, they will never know!

I am not sure if my friend has raised the required $400 yet. If not, and if he does not plan to, then the person who would take his place would need to, which is why a transfer would be best.

I'm sure they allow it. Granted the person that takes over that slot raises the money, or something. If they didn't allow it, there wouldn't be craigslist entries of people offering to buy a spot on the ride.

Every message from the MS150 contains a statement like the following:
Important: Rider Transfers Not Allowed
Team Captains, please spread the word: As stated on the rider registration form, we CANNOT transfer registrations from one rider to another if they are unable to ride.
However, as fonziesmom noted, just because the MS150 organization cannot transfer a registration does not mean it doesn't happen.
^^^ Shows how much I like to read auto-generated emails. :o
Thanks for that info. My friend was leaving town when I was talking to him, so I guess I'll just find out when he gets back if he wants to pick up his rider packet to let someone else use it. May depend on if he has raised the $400 already, as apparently if you pick up your rider packet and don't raise the funds it can prevent you from riding in the future.

Yeah, I really need to get on my fundraising. People were really generous last year so my expectations are that it's going to be that easy again.

It does clearly state in the riders guide that transfers are not allowed. That being said, if the transferee was willing to raise the min pledge amount of $400 in order to keep the transferer in good standing, than no harm no foul. I know for a fact that it happens alot among some of the larger teams.
VERY IMPORTANT:
If you crash, you don't want there to be mix-up with your emergency info. When a rider goes down, the injured person is tracked exclusively by RIDER NUMBER. If the phone number is screwed up in the database at MS150 headquarters on Stadium Drive, the wrong family is going to get the call. Make sure the emergency phone numbers in the registration pertain to you. Also, wear on your body the correct emergency phone numbers.
