my ride report:
i wasn't sure what i was getting myself into by signing up for this ride and quickly found out that i was pretty stupid to think that i was going to climb both sides AND up to the observatory.
started the ride wearing a vest that i didn't need and was burning up pretty-much all the way to the store. bleah. luckily, though, at one point i was able to assist james in adjusting mike's rear DR. so at least i appeared a knowledgeable cyclist in spite of the fact that i was climbing like a rock. a rock wearing a blue vest. a blue vest that actually came in very handy on the way back down. so i guess the day wasn't a complete failure from a riding standpoint.
You also graciously carried a cell phone up a mountain and threw it in the general store garbage :D

Dave: Dang...that looks like it really hurt. Maybe it's a good thing your bike's aluminum, else it would have exploded a la carbon fiber. (ps: Leader is selling a two aluminum frames for about $139 and $239 right now...might be a quick fix if your budget is strained) (pps..I'm turning into a Leader shill...not sure why. ;))
South Grade didn't look as steep as usual...James needs a new camera with a 'Steep' button.
Grumpy Pig: Your legs are so puny.
Tiffany: That pic of you in post 152...I know that part of the hill...that's a steep sumbeotch.
I'm really bummed that I missed it. Looked like a lot of fun, and the blood was a bonus!

i'm surprised the front and rear of my bike didn't explode with how fat i look in those pics.

Great pics and reports!
Sorry I had to miss this ride -- as some of you may know, I was "detained" (no, not by any arm of the legal system or law enforcement agency).
We did get a nice 40mi ride in this morning -- from Rancho Bernardo up Poway Grade, Highway 67 to Ramona and back.

I just dropped off my bike at the lbs. So far they said the dent won't cause a problem, but I still have to leave my bike there until Saturday for the fork inspection since they're busy. I'll wait to see what they say before looking for a new frame.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. While a twisted/bent metal bike may be unsafe, it's still ridable; I'm kind of worried that if my top tube is carbon fiber it may actually just crack from the side impact... but that's purely a guess. Either way, I crashed early on in the descend (prob 1/8th?) and it would've been a pain to walk down the rest of Palomar. The rest of the way down, I was paying much more attention to the corners and am glad that I didn't crash a corners with no run-off pit/railing (i.e. flying off the cliff), or into cactus. :p

Dave, don't choose your next bike frame on post-crash rideability. Crashes happen and each one is different - it's impossible to determine the outcome on your equipment. In your incident, a carbon frame may have broken completely... or it may have simply flexed and survived unscathed. Get the bike you'd like to ride, not the one you'd like to crash. :D

Dave, I hope you're ok and Honeslty you SHOULD replace that CF fork, even if there is a hairline crack that is not found, it can lead to something far worse in the furture.

Well, it also depends on what the price is of course. :D
