dog hair and I are planning on riding on Sunday, April 1. Climb Palomar South Grade. Descend East Grade. Climb East Grade. Do an out and back to the observatory. Descend South Grade. Start time to be determined. Who's in? :D The last time we did this ride as a group ride, those in attendance got to witness the removal of my dork disk. :) And extort was eaten by a hawk. :p

By the way, I'm not kidding about the 1.5 miles. That's how many vertical miles of descending is on this ride. In the horizontal direction, figure on about 60 miles.

Start at the overflow parking lot for the Harrah's casino. Roll at 9 AM.

No, that's Jason's job. We're waiting for James to commit to crew so he can photodocument the unveiling.

V, you know that anyone who posts a double digit number of posts before the thread is even one hour old is compelled to ride, right? :D

CURSES!!! This is the Swap Meet day! Do I go to the SW and maybe get a frame that actually fits me, or do I mount Palomar like the writhing sweaty beast that she is? (TWICE!)

Ah, forget it. I'll just get a shake at Ruby's.

I'm in for the torture fest. Starting at the same place again at Harrah's?

Mo I think you need to go look for a deal on a frame to help solve those back pains, the Mountain will alway be there, cheap bike parts will not...

For my birthday, you should get a new bike. How about an 06 Tarmac Expert, perhaps?

Glad to see that advertising vertical feet of descending didn't scare you off. :)

Cool. Yeah, I figure we'll start at Harrah's.

Anyone have any opinions about start time? It's not a hugely long ride, so there's no need for an ultra-early start. Just to get the discussion started, how about rolling at 9 AM to 10 AM sometime? Allows us to sleep in a bit, yet gives us plenty of daylight to do this ride.

I'll probably go and try to ride Palomar; but not the full course. I'll see you guys at the start just to meet everyone, then attempt to do a basic out-and-back to the observatory via the South Grade.

jschen
03-22-07, 08:08 PM
Cool. I have you signed up for the 1.0 mile option. :p

jschen
03-22-07, 08:35 PM
Oh, and in all seriousness, I think you'll do just fine. Palomar is like riding Torrey Pines (outside route), except it just keeps going and going. There aren't really any killer sections as long as the wind doesn't get nasty. The section to the observatory is a little bit steeper, but quite doable.
