Live and close to where????? If you mean Orange County - quite a few of us live here. Where in general are you looking to relocate? You do realize that although the weather is nice, housing prices are out of sight. 1 bedroom apartments rent for 1500+, Houses (1 bedroom condo) starts at $350,000. Are you still interested?

If you are in technology, engineering, insurance, law... you may have a shot.

Well, thats where my job would be (if it all pans out) so i guess i don't have to live there specifically. I understand that the housing prices in CA are out of sight, similar to suburbs of Chicago but not quite as drastic. So, any areas in or around San Clemente that would be reasonable to live/afford? I'd be fresh out of College so i'm not going to be on a huge salary, but combined with my GF's income as well.

I guess i'm just asking for general info about the area because i'm from IL and have never had the pleasure of visiting sunny CA.

san clemente is a somewhat sleepy surf town right on the beach. you are located almost exactly halfway between san diego and l.a., which is pretty cool.
it's home to trestles, one of the premier surf spots in california. lots of worse places i could think of living thats for sure.

san clemente is a great place!

if you're willing to commute a bit, you could look south of there (maybe oceanside or solana beach). if you go north, it gets a bit more expensive I think. if you're pinching pennies, your best bet may be to look south or east.

I think pinching pennies is a safe bet. I'm very excited about this prospect though! :)

I have not spent a lot of time in San Clemente but I think the area is great. Congratulations on your prospect of coming to sunny SoCal.

Look in the following areas for more affordable* housing:
San Clemente
San Juan Capistrano

and for more of a commute:
Oceanside
Carlsbad

*more affordable means less than the median rent of the rest of Orange County, but not cheap. 1 bedroom places with a garage start at $1100 and go up from there. There is not many communities around San Clemente as it is at the very southern end of the beach communities in the OC. South of San Clemente is the San Onofre nuclear reactor and Camp Pendleton Marine Base, then Oceanside...

I really hope this pans out for me, i hate, hate HATE! winter/snow/sleet/icy streets/frozen car doors, you get the idea. I could live a very happy life sea side eating fish tacos for lunch catching some sun...:love:

You'll really appreciate the weather/temp around here during winter time if you are a cyclist from midwest. I moved here from the cheeseland couple years ago.

I'd live in San Clemente or San Juan Capistrano if I was married and I could get a job down there. Fish tacos, beaches, and good cycling areas nearby are all good things.

Once a Packers fan always a Packers fan. I cant believe Chargers fired Schottenheimer. Man,I was really hoping the Badgers would go far in the tournament. Sorry for getting off the subject.:)

If you can, look for an apartment west of I-5, north of Christianitos (?) and south of Pico. That neighborhood is well kept, close to the beach and close to their downtown.

Oceanside is less expensive but if there is an accident on the 5 and the CHP have to close the freeway, you're SOL.

I lived in San Clemente about 20 years ago for about 5 years and loved it, when I was there, however I worked mostly in LA at the time and HATED the driving. If you have a chance to live and work in SC you will be a fortunate fellow! I know nothing of small towns as I've lived my whole life in socal, but there seems to be many gererations living there and everyone, at lease at that time, seemed to know each other. Good luck.
