What is your preferred race week tapering plan? I'm a 40 YO Clydesdale with a sprint tri Sunday. My plan for this week is the following:

Su: 3.5 Mile run
M: 1000M swim
T: 2 Mile run
W: 12 Mile TT (bike)
Th: Off
F: 1 Mile jog
Sa: Off
Su: Race

Thoughts? What works for you?

Jim

I would switch F/St and do another swim focusing on technique closer to the race, maybe Thursday instead of resting.

Your Wednesday 12 mile TT - is that an all-out effort? If you're well trained or have a lot of miles under you, you may recover in time but if not, an all-out effort might leave you a little tired on Sunday.

If your TT isn't an all out effort, please disregard.:)

Should have clarified - it was 'brisk', but far from LT. I was mostly focusing on smooth cadence and aero position (which still feels a little 'strange', but I'm getting used to it).

Thanks for the feedback.:)

I agree with rplong. The last time I took the day before off, I didn't feel as good as I did the day before it.

The rest day should be Friday. Saturday, take a nice stroll, spend some restful time in a pool, but keep your body moving with as little impact as possible.

Not bad man,

I can't really offer much input on tapering for a sprint tri, for standards and Ironman i've always had the day two days before a race off, and the day before will only have a 20min easy jog the night before with 10*100m stride outs (not quite a full on sprint, just fast long strides). Rest of the week is just do what you feel like doing. My coach has always said that "there's nothing you can do to improve your performance on the race week, but there's a alot you can do to fuk it up".

Mark.
