I'm planning a tour of the Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana area in September and I've run across a snag. Does anyone know of a route or a ferry across the Mississippi River at or near Vicksburg, MS? I've found a couple of references to a King's Point Ferry but no details. Anyone familiar with it?
I'm kind of limited on vacation time and would rather not have to ride south to Natchez to cross if I can help it.

Follow the MRT (Mississippi River Trial) and cross from Helena AR. to Lula MS. then ride south toward Vicksburg.

I'm crossing from Arkansas at Greenville and riding south to Vicksburg. From Vicksburg, I want to cross back over to Louisiana. Vicksburg is as far south as I'm going.

Google map shows route 3218 bridge crossing adjacent to the Interstate 20 bridge - is that 3218 bridge closed?

Cyco,
I am not familiar with that area but understand the problem. I am planning a tour that crosses the Mississippi and the crossing point is a major part of the plan. I have chosen to cross much farther north near Helena, Arkansas. Same as Apneaman points out.

By the way, the mid-south in September is very hot (90's for the highs) and very humid. Durring the afternoons thunderstorms can pop up quickly. The winds are normally out of the SSW so expect to be riding into the wind most of the time. Good luck.

You can get part way across. The Louisiana side is closed.

Hitch-hike - -
I've hitched across a number of rivers including the Mississippi.
50 years ago there used to be numerous ferries - which are MUCH more pleasant for cyclists.
Now, the only ferries on the lower Mississippi north of New Orleans are at Hickman, KY and St. Francisville, LA - and the latter is getting replaced by a bridge next year.
Hitching is easiest if you pick a location with landings on both sides of the river - thus old ferry locations are ideal if the landings remain public launch points. Take a book - read for a while. My experience has been that the first people coming down to put their boat die laughing - then say, "Come on - - we'll take you across."
