Training & Nutrition - Update on my ankle

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I know I posted last week about my Achilles tendon strain. I hurt my Achilles trying to push myself to finish my course in less time. I was going to just lay off a day, then start again, but someone else had the same problem, and the consensus was to take a few days off. I read that person's post, and I also posted and said I'd take off a few days too.
Well, after 5 excruitating days of staring outside and watching the bikes whizz by, I took my bike out today. I went for a long ride, but I didn't go fast at all, and I stayed in the lower gears mainly, and no pain! I'll see for sure in the morning if I'm sore, and if not, then the time off did wonders for my ankle. I'm healed!
I'm just glad I went back and read through everyone's advice. Old Koffee would have ridden through the pain and then probably hurt herself more and myself even more. New Koffee heeds the advice of fellow forum members and takes the time off, so she comes back strong when she's rested properly.
I'm feeling good! Thanks fellow forum members!

Chris L is glad that Koffee's ankle is healed. Chris L suggests that Koffee might perhaps consider gradually building back up to top pace over the next few days just to be absolutely certain things are OK. Chris L also wonders if third-person posting is one of the side-effects of ankle problems.

hey umm!im 12 and i race bmx i was ou there and i was playing around and there was a jump and i got 2 feet it was phat:D
But how did u hert your ankle:eek:
I hurt my ankle from pushing myself too hard over a period of 3 days trying to get my pace up.
Koffee plans on taking things easy and building up my pace over a few days, just as Chris suggested. Koffee wants to be smart about her comeback so that she doesn't end up hurting herself again. :D
Koffee thinks that perhaps the third-party posting might be a side effect, but she wasn't aware she was doing it to begin with!

Koffee. So glad you are somewhat better. It is so difficult to watch bikers go by and just watch. Hope you are at full speed soon. Too early a return, guess cause us to maybe miss more biking later?
I have had your problem for over one month now. The HMO gods take forever to pass on needed medical procedures. Still have not seen my specialist. Scheduled sometime soon. Then take another couple weeks to get approval for the surgery..Meanwhile my torn ligaments in my shoulder just stay unused.
About one week ago, I had enough of my trainer. At least -solely restricted to. I had to get out.
I take my bike I view as more stable. can ride as long as I do not fall. Don't peddle with shoulders, do We? My doctor would have a fit, should I fall. I must be careful.
I watch the bikes wiz by, gotta do it. Can't go without a bike for months on end. After the surgery will be restricted to a trainer for awhile then. I know. Maybe watching tapes of Italian Giro will help keep me on the trainer.?
Good luck to you. Wish I just had a sprain. I know they are painful.
Think my solution is to put a screw into my bones and then I will be ok.?

Yeah, Koffee, keep it up on your recovery. I bet it'll be gone the pain will be gone forever! Keep it touch.
It really hurts me when I see people getting injured. I see my track mates getting injured, having to ice themselves, walking terribly and being able to run for only 5 seconds at a time. It really makes me afraid and fear, and it feels as though I myself is injured when I see people injured. Hopefully, everyone can take the necessary precautions and keep themselves injury-free. God bless everyone.
Take it easy on your recovery, remember one step at a time.
I`m also a bad healer, watching others perform whilst I have been laid-up for any lenght of time is agonising. Akin to a Bear with a sore head, people tell me. :)
Hope you also recover soon C.Z.

Geez, you tried it out on a 40 miler? You must be made of steel! I hope it gets better sooner. Best -
Yes, I did the 40 miler yesterday, and my ankle was fine. In addition, today I've had no ankle problems, which is cool!
I have the saddle sores from the 40 miler, but that's small beans. I'll be in transit anyway for the next day for my trip. So those sores will get plenty of time to heal!
