I was hoping to actually be in shape to be able to complete at least a half duathlon (within a reasonable amount of time) for this summer.....perhaps even the fall.
But it frankly doesn't look realistic at all.

So it goes though I have been able to leave the "clydesdale" category officially as I am now 183 lbs. down from 210 of late last year. All this past winter I was hammering my legs on the bike trainer with some spinerval dvds as well as using the bowflex and the treadmill (until the cheap crap treadmill died on me  that is).
But for the past 3 weeks or so I've been doing nothing at all. Not even a basic workout. I've gotten tired and lost some motivation. Looking in the mirror I'm obviously much thinner with leg muscles that are getting more and more developed.
But, my core muscle group is dismal at best and needs seperate focus in and of itself. And although, it has been a recent triumph of me to actually start running without a treadmill for extended periods of time without vomiting and collapsing in a pathetic heap on the sidewalk while pretty blonde joggers run past me without a second thought!!!............anyways what was I saying? =/
Oh yeah.
Umm.....without the treadmill its like I still have to learn what it means to run much less run even a half marathon at a decent pace. Running on a treadmill is simply not like the real thing.....it does help of course.
*sigh*

I'm trying to gear myself up for a final 6 week push to get myself into some kind of shape for the summer season to begin. I'm aiming for the end of may/begiining of june. I will be focusing as much as I can on the core group so I can support my body during the many miles of bike riding I plan on doing.
Hopefully, at the end of this outdoor season I can see where my fitness is then and perhaps the following year I can be ready to enter a multi-sport amateur race of some sort.

What do you guys think? Any thoughts for me?

It is easier to stay focused if you stay consistent. Get back on track, with maybe 30-40 minutes a day until you start feeling motivated again. You should feel great for dropping so many pounds. Keep it up and keep it off. You can still keep your seasonal goals, just push for it.

The thing I love the most about this sport is that you have to keep going. Even when it gets rough, and you feel like all of the time you spend on the bike or on the trails or in the pool isn't getting you anywhere, you still have to keep pushing. At least for me, it delivers a feeling of empowerment, almost as if there is no challenge that I cannot tackle. So my suggestion for you? Just get out and do it. You'll find that it might be tough at first but you'll come around, and you'll be in shape for your duathlon in no time. Best of luck, and if you need any motivation, just let us know. :)

I got sick 6 weeks ago. I slept 3 straight days and was weak for another 4. I had no motivation for another week until I drug myself to the gym and I was hooked again.

I hear ya bantam.
The last week in March was the beginning of my final push for a late may/Beginning of June readiness.
This past week works outs was as follows:

Monday: Rest day.
Tuesday: Lunch hour jog up the west side highway of manhattan. And bowflex workout after work.
Wednesday: Evening workout on bike trainer, spinerval dvd: Aero Base Builder #3
Thursday: Abs and Stretch class at the local gym (gawd I'm out of shape)
Friday: Evening workout on bike trainer, spinerval dvd: Uphill Climb (hill climbing duh)
Saturday: Rest day.

This is just the first week so I plan to ramp up the intensity however and whenever I can. I plan to do some more jogging this week and get another class in. Or at the very least try to come up with my own abs/core workout at home. I'm the type to get more done at home than at a gym. And I really intended to workout today saturday but I was feeling really sore and decided to rest.
Sunday I think I will do some weight training work and prepare for this week coming.
My goal for the rest of the year is to at least get a bike century under my belt and at least a half marathon at whatever pace I can set. Then continue on my diet plan then see where I am healthwise at the end of the year.
Hopefully, in the following year I can realistically be in shape to start planning to enter an amateur half duathlon and finish....hopefully not in last place. :D
