Vehicular Cycling (VC) - VCers confessional........

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I rode up a one-way street the wrong way! I hopped a curb and rode on the sidewalk! I had to steer around some pedestrians! I used a handicapped ramp to get back on the road and proceed in a VC manor! All while decked out in the team kit! FOR SHAME!!!!
I beg forgiveness...

You are forgiven my son.
Your only penance is to ride against traffic on the interstate while ninja clad with no reflectors for 20 miles during rush-hour....

Safest way to ride too! The "crash rate" for such penance riding is zero. Stats don't lie! Eh?

I ride VC in bike lanes.
my VC commuting routes take me on roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, through parking lots and alleys, and through a campus bus stop.

galen, rando, your two examples showcase the adaptive nature of even the most ardent vehicular cyclists (Galen) and the benefits of staying adaptive in cycling.
My example is still true to Vehicular Cycling. I rode vehicularily down a road in a classed lane.
VC in a bike lane, baby!

Bek, you're deluded. Cycling in a lane classed for cycling is not VC. You gotta get into the carpool or bus lane. Then you can claim VC.

your irony might be lost on some of the casual onlookers, sbikes.
I can SOO ride VC in a bike lane! So can helemt head, so can sbikes, so can any of us "VC" cyclists.

When cycling, I never stop or even slow down at any intersection unless there is any possible conflict with other vehicles or pedestrians, or an obstructed line of sight. Really helps keep up my speed and efficiency with no downside.

I use a sidewalk to cut through from a dead-end to a main artery. At the other side, I wait at the top of a T intersection at a crosswalk for the light to turn green for the bottom of the T. Then I beat the oncoming traffic, turn right and cross two lanes to get to the left turn lane. It gives me an arrow if I sit on the cut.
The best part is that I get to roll past people sipping beer and munching appetizers as I dodge pigeons on my bent.
;)
...as I dodge pigeons on my bent.
...actually, they walk slowly out of my way...

I took the ped sidewalk on the bridge over Mission Bay on the way back from Chuck E. Cheese with my daughter in tow.
It sucked. We went back to vehicular as soon as we could, though we did take another sojourn on the path along the bay through Mission Beach.

I took the opposing lane up to an open drawbridge tonight, filtering on the other side of the double yellow, right to the front of the line, then rode the wet bridge grate across at the head of the line. I also used a sidewalk shortcut contraflow tonight. the ride home didn't suck at all.

I hope your daughter enjoys the time you're spending with her!;)
