Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - What would you guesstimate this bike is worth

definitely no more than 50 bucks...

Its slack as all hell which is neither here nor there, but long chainstays on a fixed gear mean the chain can fall off more easily (has happened to me a few times). You'll either need new cranks or a new BB if you don't want to go ghetto SS style. The brakes are centrepulls. Those rims are probably steel. You'll need a new rear wheel anyways. Stem mounted shifters are NEVER a good sign... It looks heavy but is in pretty great condition as far as I can tell from the pics.

Metallic Grey and Orange Azuki Steel Lugged Tange Chromoly Frame. Araya rims laced to Suzue hubs, Dia-Compe Brake Set, Sakae Road Bars and Stem, Tange Headset, Suntour Index Shifters, Suntour front Derailur, Suntour VX rear Derailur, Sugino crankset with 170mm cranks.

i think it's pretty rad. are you gonna fix it? and what is steep? like $250 or something?

i would drop maybe $70ish if i was in a good mood and didn't have any other bike.

What Tange tubing? Are the wheels 27 inch or 700c?

I have a sock that cannot be matched. I will offer it up for said bike.

I wouldn't buy that bike, but if you're desperate and it works well enough to ride then 100 tops.

Some of you guys are crazy, that's a nice looking bike. Looks to be a little newer/better condition than most 6 speeds I've dealt with. The main thing to look at is the quality of the tubing. Which tubeset is it made of?

Do you want to convert it into a fixie or singlespeed? You could take off the shifters and large chainring and have a singlespeed ready to roll. If it was in good operating condition I might even just leave it as is and add some toeclips to keep it as a road bike.

That said if you can get it for $50 or less you've got a deal.

Shiznaz, those are clearly aluminum rims. Steel faded out in the early 80's except on the absolute bottom of the barrel bikes. Also, the only time you'd see downtube shifters is on serious race bikes, that doesn't mean that every bike with stem shifters (the majority) is crap. In fact for conversion I'd rather have stem shifters because then you don't have to deal with the braze-ons.

With these old bikes, I think emotional/aesthetic value is about the only consideration... and I'm liking that paint a lot! Pretty nice. I hate the fork, though... Your call.

Those brakes+levers look like they aren't all that stellar, the crank is def. not exactly good, the wheels look real cheap... If you can get it for the money that the frame is worth to you, then good. I wouldn't be too happy paying for the components at all. Think what you're going to use.

The paint job is pretty cool. I think it'd look great with a black Mavic/Formula wheelset.

the tubing is number 1 Tange chromoly.
yeah, all i really want to get out of this frame is cheap fixie that I don't have to worry about. the fixie that I just built is my pride. I don't want it stolen or overly abused.

I would have said under 50, but if it's Tange #1 maybe a little more.

Stem levers, like turkey leg/suicide levers were accessories invented in the 1970s when steel ten speed bikes had their 'golden era'. Road bikes were the standard and department stores and toy stores stocked them. While everyone liked the look of road bikes, not everyone wanted to use road brake levers or downtube shifters because they were 'hard to use' or 'dangerous' or whatever. These accessories, while more easily reachable, degrade performance, and as such were never installed on good quality bicycles. Thats why if you see a bike with stem shifters its probably not a great bike.

Both were optional on the Schwinn Paramount.
