Hi, all
I just bought a cross bike, which is in the mail as we speak, and I plan on using it mainly as a road bike, which means that I need to get rid of the knobby tires. I am fairly new to the sport, so I don't know which ones to get. I've got Mavic CXP-11 rims, and it comes with 700x30 tires. Do I need to get the exact same size replacement tire, or can I get ones that are slightly thinner, like 700x28s? And which tires would you recommend?
Thanks in advance,
droche

The CXP-11 is not listed on Mavic's website, which is a good source of such info. My guess would be that 700x28s should work, but perhaps you could call the vendor to ask advice. My T519 rims will handle a range from 28-35. My bike came with 700x40. The generic factory rims look the same width as the T519 and I have ridden 700x28s on them just fine. In fact the front one is still on the bike. Sheldonbrown.com has an article on tire width that may shed some light.

Raymond

Welcome to BF and welcome to the wonderful world of cycling!

My Raleigh R600 road bike (now my commuter bike) has CXP11 rims. It came with 700x23 tires. Now that I use it for commuting I have 700x25 tires on it.

You shouldn't have any problems putting 700x28 tires on those rims.
