Have your goals changed since you set them in December?

A little I must admit. I've upped it on trying to ride back to back doubles (heavy loaded on the front of the year). Also, in lieu of CAM, I've been doing CAW - well, until last weekend when I nearly bonked on the BA training ride. Not necessarily smart IMHO (I can say that about myself, damnit! :p ) I'm thinking too that the last half of the year, I'm aiming for more climbing. Next year I want KOM, but I'm now considering grand slam...unless I'm crazy/stupid enough to try that this year. :D I'll see how my legs feel after Solvang. I'm just hoping to finish...same with Hemet. Eastern Sierra is still a possiblity now, but makes me nervous. How's that? :o

I like the old one's but I've knocked about half of them off (first century, I saw Extort climb, and I'm still having fun)

I've got measurable goals now. I'm targetting 3500-4000 miles and 200k-250k vertical feet. This year is primarily about getting solid legs under me, less of a gut in front of me, and becoming an ok climber. I'm targetting the ability to finish the mulholland challenge and one of the centuries in the sierras next year and finish both feeling basically fine.

If I hit my mileage, climbing, and weight goals this year, I'll be getting a bike that's a little more suited for climbing than my 26lb touring bike.

Your new goal that is to be immediately added to your list is to accompany me and the others on every ride of our choosing. Mark that down and memorize it. :p ;) :D

I started counting miles when I began cycling on a regular basis midway through 2006. I ended up with 2000 miles which I was happy about. This year I hope to hit 3000 which means I have to ride a around 275 a month for the rest of the year to reach that.

thats easy!!! you can totally do that! just keep commuting!!!

If you reverse it and ride from San Fran to LA, count me in, going North up the coast kind of blows though. Also, you forgot about Vegas Baby!

Well I had 5 specific goals, which were routes I wanted to do. Haven't done any of them yet but expect I will begin to in the next few months as the weather gets better and the days longer.

Thanks for reminding us of these!

There are multiple sources for the San Fran to LA route. I like the Bicycling the Pacific Coast book. The adventure cycling maps are good also. Next time I can squeeze a month off and the biggest favor ever from my dogsitter, I'm going to bike from Washington to San Diego.

Oh. Those goals. I think I signed up for the CAM - so far so good. And I wanted to get fast enough to be able to sandbag someone. I didn't say who, so I'm on track for that one too.

Extort
03-24-07, 01:53 AM
I am three weeks away from starting my goals...

and I still climb just like Extort, so I am still on track with that goal...

here and there
03-25-07, 09:23 AM
Old Goals:

1. Have fun and stop to enjoy the scenery more often.

2. Surpass my 2006 mileage. I'm aiming for 3,000.

3. Avoid injury.

4. More mountain biking.

5. More mountain biking.

6. More mountain biking.

So far I've stuck to #1. #2 ain't happening this year. No way, no how. Not with my riding days being cut down from 3-4 days to 1-2 days a week. I can't complain much though...this new job pays nicely. #3...well...I've already had two injuries. One kept me off the bike for 7 weeks, the more recent one has kept me off for a week, possibly 2-3. #4-6 ain't going to happen either.

New Goals:

1. Avoid more injuries.

2. Just enjoy the ride. Forget about miles, speed, etc. Just shut up and enjoy the ride.

Old goals...

Butterfield Double Century
Solvang Double Century
TBD Double Century to complete Ca. Triple Crown
One of the KOM rides
Century a Month Challenge
6000 miles
be able to call myself a "climber" by the end of the year, and mean it
eat an entire Mr. Serious in one sitting, post ride

Unfortunately, I have to announce that I am removing the Mr. Serious from my goals this year. It interferes with the "climber" goal...lol. :p

I think that most of my other goals are on track with the exception of adding all three KOM rides to my list instead of just one.

Only goal I had was completing triple crown. I guess I could shoot a goal of finishing Old La Honda in 30 minutes (a local hill climb in Woodside in Nor Cal), but I decided against it.

My goals this year...
1. Up mileage to 4000, I'm just under 3K for this year.
2. Ride 3 centuries (one more than this year).
3. Do the above with my new gearing, standard double w/ 12-25 cassette. Maybe its just in my head but I already miss my compact crank a little. ;)

12-09-07, 06:33 PM
Met my goals (except CAM, since I still have to get a century in this month), but ended the year feeling like a beached whale. I think I erred a bit in setting my goals and got carried away, burnt out, lost my mojo ("here mojo, here...come on, come on...."). Nonetheless, I made most of them:

1. KOM (check)
2. 5,000 miles (later upped to 7,000, but now 6,000, which I should make, so check)
3. CAM (almost)

Goals for 2008...mountain bike if even only on fire roads, have fun, maybe a double or two, have fun, find balance, have fun. But I guess this doesn't belong in this thread. :o

Sure, Herb. Tell ya what. YOU hire me (at a better salary than I'm at), and then YOU tell the boss that I'm playing hookie on a Friday.

Look it (just for Vance), it has to be a Sunday! Well, or a Saturday, I suppose. But I want to ride Reseda and also the dirt Mulholland. Big John says they're great and he knows his mountain biking and he also knows I'm a newbie. :)

Where and when?!?

I usually go to Carbon Cyn regional park..its a drive..., but nice riding...its not to technical for me but challenging...

Actually...I hear there is good riding at the top of La Tuna (right near the 210)...that certainly is closer...I have never been there...at least on an MTB...
Ok...ME....you need to be in on this!!

Yea, Brea is a little far. But if you do La Tuna (or top of Reseda?), let me know. I've been trying to squeeze some mtb in.

Climb like Extort.:eek:I descend slower than Extort now. Does that count? :D :p

As for me:
- Ride at least 3 times a week before work - failed; only did that for ~2 weeks
- Be able to sustain mid-20+mph longer on flats - failed; forgot to focus on that
- Be able to climb that ski lift area past GMR - failed; bailed 3 times and ate at the village instead :p
- Improve my endurance beyond 30 miles - met; now it's 50 miles
- Climb up Torrey Pines hill in 8 mins - met; 8m10s compared to 9m30s at the start of the year
- Spinning at 100+rpm - kind of; can spin at 110rpm, but my legs get tired afterwards

Only 3 of 6. I need to have less goals next year.

jsigone
12-09-07, 08:36 PM
hum I said I wanted to climb like Extort, but when I last Extort up Palomar, it wasn't the Extort I known in the past so I doubt it counted that I made it to the top before him:p

Of my real goals
Loss 15 lbs --NOPE still the same weight 195lbs
Climb faster---sorta, I feel more comfy climbing at higher gears then in the past
Better flatland speed-- early this yr I can get to 24-25 no problem, now I'm 29-33mph solo, so Yah
join a club--yup signed up with the Ranchos here in esco, hope they help to make me faster/fitter
Most important of them all, GET A NEW BIKE--YES!!! FINALLY!!!! SOO HAPPY:D

merider1

You did KOM???

Oh for cry eye...TC or KOM, who cares? Same damn suffering. And for what? WHAT!!!!???? A stupid, overpriced jersey and a sore ass.

I can find other ways to get both of the above. :p

(note: for those all with their panties and tightie whities up in it...I'm kidding. You did just great earning those jerseys. Now, go enjoy them. :D)

I'm on track for my simple goals: 6,000 miles (about 350 to go!), and CAM...didn't get started til February, but have stayed with it. Just need December (and I guess January 2008 to make a full 12 months in a row. :D)

My goals-
-in the top 10 in the KOM series- yep.
-Death Ride in < 8 hours ride time- nope, 8:20. Those 20 minutes are going to be hard for me to erase.
-inside top 20 in the 4/5s at Everest Challenge- yep. Actually finishing it was the main goal, meeting my placing target was icing on the cake.

Getting ready for that took me 7000 miles (as of today), and if I put in another 25k feet of climbing this year I'll have done 700,000 feet. That wasn't a goal, I was figuring I'd need about 600,000, but since I'm so close I might as well do it.

Right now I'm trying to decide if I am going to do the KOM series next year. They're a lot of fun and I really enjoy long climbing events but it's a long drive from the bay area. One of my goals for this year is to race in normal road races and that conflicts with the KOM.

Ummm....find a way to get Extort to climb as slow as me...

but seriously...

Sustained flat land speeds of 24+ by myself.

Finish top 3 in a Cat 5 crit...

when i upgrade late march to Cat 4 finish in the top 10 by the end of season.

Do well for my team.
