Hello Everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I just bought a Raleigh Grand Prix Aluminum Road Bike.

Today, I was cleaning the bike after a ride and I noticed something odd.

On the top tube, approx 6-7 inches from the seatpost, It would appear that a hair about 3/4 of an inch long is under the paint.

It is very thin and just off to one side.

Do you think that is a defect in the paint or maybe the frame is cracked?

Thanks in advance,
Lancer

Picture would help. But even still it would be hard to tell without being there.

Rides2Much: Assuming you bought it from a bike shop take it back and have them take a look at it.

I bought it on Ebay but I have a regular bike shop I deal with.
They even fitted me on it.

I tried to take a picture but it wouldn't show.

If I take it to the bike shop should they be able to tell FOR SURE?

Wouldn't that be an odd place for a crack?

Thanks again,
Lancer

I would take a needle and try to penetrate whatever that it is you are seeing. :>
little hole in the alluminum will not hurt it, as the metal doesn't rust.

That is a place it would show a crack, as it is right around where the butt would be in the tubing. Not to say this is a crack. I would examine under very bright light witha high power magnifying glass.
