Folding Bikes - Who makes folding recumbent bikes?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Preferably a long wheel based one.

Linear did at one time. BicycleMan in NY now owns the design rights.

Check SesameCrunch in the Downtube forum. He converted his to a recumbant using a kit. Also, I think Bike Friday makes one. In both cases, they are fussy to fold. Sesame has to take his seat off to fold it.

They do. Clever pun in the name - Bike Sat'rday or something like that - and yeah, I hear they are fussy.

Neither of the last two are long wheel bases (LWB), though they fold. HPM also sells the Phaser, but it's a short wheel base and looks like it takes a while to fold.

Here are two pictures of my Downtube folding bike converted to a recumbent with a kit from Cruzbike:

The handlebar comes off with 2 hex bolts. The hard seat makes folding cumbersome. There might be another style of seat that folds better. I haven't done the research yet.

Bike weighs 31lbs (at LBS scale), total cost into it is about $850 (not counting the Velocity wheels).

The nice thing about the front wheel drive design of the Cruzbike is that you don't have to contend with the long chain. The front triangle is very tidy and clean.

There is now a converted Non-Suspension model and a VIIIH internal hub model posted on the Yahoo Groups Cruzbike website if you're interested in seeing more variety.

The Bike Friday folks are lucky more people don't know about your folding recumbent under $800.00 dollars because the their bent sells for $2K! I have yet to see one on the streets of Manhattan.
