Ho guys, as you know from my intro thread, I have only just started biking for the last month or so. During this time I have found some good places to bikes around (the lake at the Memorial Park) and whatnot. But now I wanna find a better routes for exercising around the east side of the town near murray and airport.
Do anybody in Colorado here knows of these routes that I'm asking for? If there seems to be none, how should I search and find a route to exercise with? I'm currently looking around for a flat routes so I wouldn't overwork my knees. The last few weeks was pretty good for me but at times I gets some bad pinches of pains and whatnot from overworking my knees.
I'm currently looking into some stretches and exercises that targets the knees to help strengthen it.
Mainly the focus of this route should be a easy exercise with the aim of getting my leg used to the regularity of cycling more heavier everyday. especially with the summer coming up and my plan for improving my endurance, stamina, and speeds. I'm currently focused on using cycling as a cardiovascular exercises to help lose my excess fats more efficiently. The last month, I have already lost around 10 pounds but I still got about 15 pounds more to go.
P.S. I've hurt my knee when I had happened to run my knee into the corner of some wooden furniture. I had then gone to the school infirmary and they had only given me some tyenol and ice despite my knees having swollen to the size of a softball sticking out. I have since then learned not to trust the infirmary for anything. for a long time afterward, my knee would pretty much give out often whenever I had to walk across the campus of my high school at the Virgina School for the Deaf and the Blind.

www.bikesprings.org Colorado Springs Cycling Club. I rode with them a couple of times when I lived near Denver. The hardscrabble Century was great. Their site has a number of routes listed. Plot them on an area map and take it from there. Luck.

Hey man.... I'll go with you....... I like HWY 24 out to Falcon or Peyton...... A nice smooth road nothing hard. I ride the path at Powers and Const. a fair amount( I commute home from school on it) and it is a great place to rehab your knee!!

sorry for not getting back to y'all sooner.
ken cummings, I have downloaded all of the routes PDF from the site and sadly none of them is close enough to my home. Though when I gets into better shapes and can go farther and longer, these routes would be very handy indeed so thanks Ken :)
Itspd, sound like a good route to take on a day off since the metro stops by the academy road near there (I think). Though I'll have to look at my map to make sure that I understand the directions. I'm still somewhat new to colorado springs since I have only moved here in aug 2005 and had not really gotten around much until the last few months. So the area that I'm famialir (sp?) with is along most of the academy blvd between Ft. Carson up to just past the Citadel Mall and the platte/boulder metro routes to the downtown.
Funrover, you live in colorado springs? :) cool, maybe we can set up a ride sometime though you need to be aware that I'm a pretty big novice when it comes to bikes so I may need to fix my bike up (rear tire is slightly bent but still useable) first before doing any such long routes to avoid any unneccessary injuries. Though I'll welcome any chance of learning how to fix up my bike if you wanna show me :D (I'll bring a notepad to help our communication if there is any issues with it. I'm deaf in case you haven't seen my intro thread.)

cool, currently cause of my knee, I perfer roads. though my legs seems to be getting even more stronger since I've just bought a "new" used bike, http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=283675 (scroll down for info on the bike). I may wanna try the dirt routes once I get even more used to general biking.
P.S.
ken cummings, I'll be printing out these routes later at the library so on a day off when I have nuthin' to do, I'll try these routes out. thanks :)

Cool, I would not mind helping you out there. especially since on every 2nd and 4th Saturday, there is a Deaf Meet that I usually go to at the Citadel Mall. There are usually a good number of sign language students from the local colleges there who may be able to help you out with this too. (and they could help us communicate if we have difficulties understanding (just in case).
Oh if you have nothin' much to do on these Saturday, maybe we could meet there too.
P.S. There is a person that are thinking about getting into cycling and since I have not seen her since I have started, I would love to try and convince her to invest in and try out some bikes. (Not too sure which types (road or dirt) of bikes that she may perfer though)

Ok I'm back after a long hiatus. I've been getting better and better at riding and fixing up my bikes, though unfortunately I still don't have much extra money for upgrades and tools (like the chain whip or a cog adapter). Though I'm glad for this thread because I've gone for a 50 mile day about 2 weeks ago and loved it. I had wanted to find some other routes that let me go as long and Now I know where I would like to try, The highway 24. I may try to get out to Calhan and back (almost 33 miles 1 way) in a week or so. Is there any particular length of the highway 24 I should keep an eye out for?
:EDIT: oh I just realized how the highway 24 go out into kansas with many towns along the way (just looked around on the google map). Might be a good way for me to test some short touring trips if there is any good camp spot along the highway.

The ride to Calhan is Nice... there is one hill...... just outside of Peyton that makes you sweat a little but the ride is great!

Thanks :D I do like riding the hills around here but I had wanted to find a good road without too much hill to train some speed into my leg. so it sound like a great road for me to try out soon. My general speed have been improving more and more lately, I've finally gotten past the 15 mph speed average (been feeling slow lately) so now I feel that if I can learn how to spin properly and learn the best gear combination, I could go really fast. That was one of the reason why I had wanted to ask about and check out that road.
