Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

AAARRRGGGHHH, There I was out in the yard enjoying a bit of fresh air and I heard it,the neighbours lawn mower making the sound.I cast my eyes down at my feet and made my way to the garage and fired up the edger and went to work. An hour later the greenstuff is looking neat and tidy but you all know that it wont last long and I'll be back at it next weekend doing it all over and not do something fun. Darn green stuff anyway.

Depending on the cost, you could always outsource that job to a local high school kid on your block!

Well, it's either AstroTurf™, or concrete painted green; both would be a darned sight easier to keep neat, and think of all that extra time when you could be riding…

For a house in the UK- I have a large garden. Compared to what I would like- it is minute. I am a keen gardener but I like to make it easy on myself. One of the easiesat jobs to do is Cut the grass- so I have lots of it. Takes 30 mintutes to cut and is not a chore. Now about that new Flower bed that is threatehing to encroach on the bike shed-Weed killer works.

I can't wait for August when an inappropriate low cut on the dry grass (3/4 acre) finishes it.

Come on down here and you will be cutting bushes every 3 weeks all year around. You get about six inches growth in that amount of time. I am one of the few in my area that doesn't use a landscaper but I enjoy getting out and doing yard work until about June when the humidity is 95% in the morning. A typical 1.5hr yard work morning from June through October I will go through three tee shirts and two pairs of shorts and probably loose 3lbs of water.

All joking aside, at the same time that I took up biking to become more healthy I purchased a walk behind mower and dumped the rider. After all I figured that exercise obtained mowing would pay off on the bike.

Right there with you. We get a little respite from December thru February but we have to mow twice a week. Darn fertilizer!!!! At least I have a son who pitches in to share the load.

+1. I like to hang out, sip some iced tea, and give a few helpful pointers to the guys who do the lawn. I've learned some interesting new Spanish words that way.

Just spent the afternoon in the garden. No-one else cut their grass but mine needed it- I only cut it 2 weeks ago but it did need it. Then the veggie patch had the first seeds sown in it- The potatoes got Sown in their tubs and the rest of the PM was wasted putting in the flower plants and digging holes for the wifes roses. Only thing is that with all these jobs done- I should be able to get a couple of 20 mile rides in this week in the evenings when I get home from work.

Are you certain they were Spanish?- as They sound as though they could have been Anglo-Saxon.

When I downsized a few years ago I bought a double and rent the other side to my daughter and granddaughters. They get reduced rent in exchange for yard work and snow removal:) This works out fine for everyone.
I still enjoy puttering around in the flowers but haven't operated a lawn mower in years:D

It's hard to find a lawn service guy around here whose first language isn't Spanish.
Spanish is an easy language to learn.

Lawns are passe anyway. Use a lot of water, don't contribute much to the overall welfare, take plenty of chemicals to keep them green and weed-free. When we bought our house it had almost half an acre of grass, but I've been whittling away at it with xeriscape stuff, groundcovers and mulch. A lot of it is almost zero maintenance now (native plants) and looks pretty good.
