General Cycling Discussion - 76 inseam

i have a 76cm inseam, (guess i was'nt born with a towering height!) and i don't have the slightest clue as to what size i should scout for.

i want to try new bikes but they seem too big for my petite structure. can anybody out there help me, coz i've somehow checked the webs and they say a lot thats quite hard to comprehend.

Whew! Thank god its metric I thought you had a 76 inch inseam when I saw the title of the topic lol.

Me too tokus. I was thinking that you must be about 8 feet tall.

I believe about a 49 - 50cm road frame will be about right in the middle of what you need. I believe you are suppose to take your inseam and multiply it by .65. Good luck shopping.

If you don't hear from Jean Betium Smith (or close) PM her directly. Since all of us that think in inches thought you needed a really big bike she may not have noticed. Also reposting in the Womens form may help.

Generally, you need 1-3" of standover clearance when you stand with your feet on the ground. What size this translates to varies, since the lower end of the seat tube (at the bottom bracket/pedally end) varies in height off the ground.
Have a look at the websites of Trek , Canondale, also Bianchi, Terry, Jamis and Wylder.
They have womens bikes in their range. These should come with small frame, fitted with small wheels (650c rather than 700c), short pedal cranks (160-165mm) and narrow handlebars (38-40cm), ie a smaller bike, not just a squashed down large bike.

What kind of riding do you want to do? Racing, fitness, touring, commuting. Most of the quality womens bikes are really for racing and fitness.

You can ask questions there, and if you look (or use the search) at the old posts, you will find many opinions on the subject. Bianchi does a nice job with smaller bikes.

also try the compact frame bikes.... like giant OCR/TCR and specialized allez

its the giant ocr1, i also saw a look frame, its a bit big for me though. :p

The Giant is in the compact style, designed to be ridden with more standover clearance. Dont size it as a standard frame, or it will be too long, you need 3-6" of standover clearance with compacts.
