so i have a friend who wants to get a bike but hes on a limited budget

hes got $250 to spend

he wants to be able to commute on the thing 5-6 miles once in a while.. and also play around with a little bit of street style, not much really, just wants to wheelie and hop a bit, learn how to pivot and spin, he espeically wants to learn how to do a 180

hes good size, 24yrs old, 5ft 11in, about 175 pounds

im thinking a 24" of some kind would be best for what hes talking about, i think a geared hardtail would be better suited to his needs but he cant afford much and $250 mtn bike would just be an absolute piece of ****

i told him we should look at these 2 bikes:

dk fury 24 race

dk general lee 24 dirt

open to all suggestions within the $250 range though

thanks for your help

He can't really buy anything for $250 at his size. He really should spend a bit more. Also, riding on a BMX bike for 5-6 miles is not quite a fun task.

so you dont think the 2 bikes i listed would be big enough for him? theyre both in his price range..

as far as pedaling 5 miles on a BMX sucking, i know, i told him.. but he used to ride 5 miles to work on a 20inch bmx of some sort when we were like 18, and that didnt bother him too much

i figure better to have a bike thats not really suited for you, than to not have a bike at all

The general-lee is perfect. Thats exactly what I, and quite a few others here would probably have suggested. And gunz 5-6 miles is nothing.

The being big enough part is not the problem. 24" bikes would be his best bet if he really wants to go down that road. The General Lee is actually pretty nice and that's what he should go with.

I did suggest it. Well, I was in the process of doing so when you chimed in.

Speaking of 24" bikes, was it my imagination, or in Animal All Day (I think, maybe it was Can I Eat?), did Steven Hamilton do a curved wallride with a 24" bike?

I've left my house at like 5am and rode like 45 miles in one day on a 20"bmx with the seat slammed.

Sounds daunting.

Unless you rode 45 miles to a spot to ride...WHY?...just...WHY?!

A few months ago i would ride 4ish miles to some trails to dig/ride around 8am every Saturday. For about 4weeks straight. Now that winter is over i stopped though because i'd rather work on my trails, but for some reason mine would freeze before these other ones would.

ares is always 10 degrees hotter or colder then every place else.

if its warm or chily it will be hot, if its cold it will be freezing

It's 75 degrees today. I am so tempted to take out anything that has two wheels and fly around on it.

Somewhat true.

I swear it's got something to do with the power lines and the fact were all going to get cancer from digging and riding there year after year.

Well, I put my bike together (mostly). I didn't line everything up perfectly, so the steering is a bit off, and I have no air in the tires at all to the point where it is impossible to go in a straight line, but I just tried some fakie rollbacks in my bassment that has absolutely no room. It was fun... I didn't kill myself either.
