Hey, does anybody know how much it costs to replace the top plastic cap on Shimano Ultegra shifters. When my bike came in from BikesDirect the plastic cap had a chunk of chrome chipped of and no help what so ever from BikesDirect. The worst customer service you could imagine. E-mailed many times and no responce at all . Only one choice is to mail the bike back with in 30 days or keep it, no middle ground. I really like the bike and hate to send it back for a small Shimano blem on a cap. Thanks for any help.

Depending on whether you have Ultegra 6501 or 6510 lever assemblies, you can go here http://aebike.com/site/page.cfm?PageID=30&Category=1499 to find what you need. Scratches on these nameplates is not uncommon and happens frequently.

First off, I would not buy a bike mail order. I would rather try out a few at my LBS, and buy where I get service when I need it. I have never had a problem doing it that way. Maybe, a lesson learned.

You really have two choices;

1. Send it back for a small blemish.

2. Go to a LBS and get a replacement part.

You like the bike, so replacing the cap is probably a good choice.
If you like the shop, they may be of great help to you in the future.

To send it back, would most likely be a bigger pain in the butt, than riding the bike with a scratched cap.

(In theory, the mailorder house should send a replacement part, but many are only warehouses, and once they have shipped, they don't care.):rolleyes:

Get the part ... I don't know, but they can't be too expensive ... and you won't have to give up riding a bike you like.

:beer: Happy riding ... ... ...

Any shop would be able to sell you one.

Around $8 max price.

We sell them here as many people tend to damage them.
