(Thought about putting this one in the "regional" section; if a moderator thinks that's a more appropriate location I won't say a word about it being moved.:-)

So I notice that San Diego (about an hour south of here) and Santa Cruz and Davis (several hours north of here) have active randonneuring groups. For some reason, though, despite the huge number of cyclists living in L.A. and Orange we don't seem to have much randonneuring activity at all. Maybe folks in this neighborhood are simply too cool to be seen on anything but the latest 15 pound racing bike, but I honestly don't understand it. Heck, on yesterday's ride I saw another guy on a road bike with fenders and I almost turned around to chase him down and talk to him.

So I'm wondering: are any of you randonneuring readers located in SoCal and if so, do you ride with a local club, wear the colors of a more distant club, or simply ride by yourself and try to hide your shame at being seen with lights and bags?

Signed,

Lonely in Lake Forest. LOL.

I know at least one BikeForums member in Orange County is doing the San Diego brevet series.

There's also the Cayucos series near San Luis Obispo. http://www.cccbrevets.com/index.html

Well, I guess that about sums it up. I predict a great deal of solo riding in my future!

Chase me down sometimes. My 'race' bike is equipped with a Brooks saddle and a Carradice saddle bag. :D

Ah, good man! Do you ride with a club?

Ah, good man! Do you ride with a club? No. I regularly ride with a bunch of other BF folks through rides arranged over at the So Cal regional forum. We've done a few local century rides so far this year. :)

Ah, that's an interesting thought. I'll have to keep an eye out on that forum. Thanks for the tip.

If by "a few" you mean have at least one group doing a century (or longer) ride every weekend. Sometimes competing century choices.

Here's an interesting RUSA page (http://www.rusa.org/member_demographics.html) that shows the geographic breakdown of its members...

I'm surprised to see that California has 459 randonneurs but only 11 permanent routes. With that many riders, I'd have thought that California would have perms all over the state.
