Okay, we now have a date (I'm sorry if there is any femme who can't make it - finding a ride date is so hard!) and we just need all you lovely femmes to come on out. :) I know there are some lurkers on here as well as the usual crew of gals. I hope you will consider joining and meeting the group. I encourage the men to invite their wives, GFs, friends, sisters, etc. I stated in the information gathering thread and will reiterate - This is a social ride. Men are more than welcomed too! The climbing (if any) will be to a minimum and the pace easy to moderate (for all you hard core riders, this will be a perfect recovery ride!). No one will be dropped! The ride will be followed with lunch. I have to determine an exact trail and may try to do SART for this one, or headed out of Whittier Narrows on SGRT, but I have two months to tinker (and I'm open to suggestions).

I hope you use the SART. Mainly cause it's soooo smoooth and clean. Lotsa parks and places to get water.
The 20th is a Sunday! Not sure if I'll bring my wife or my girlfriend, but I'm in!:D
Kidding, my wife is my girlfriend!:p

 I look forward to riding with Gina again (and you too, of course). I'm leaning toward SART since I've only been on it once and wouldn't mind trying it again. :)
EDIT: You too, Renee! :D Two lovely femmes so far....do we have more??

Sounds good to me. I'll try to drag my sister along again. She really enjoyed the time we rode SART (TdSS stage 2).

Great, Jason! :) Now, I just have to get good advice on where to start on SART as I don't know that trail well. Any suggestions - but please bear in mind, I hope to have this halfway between the OCers and the LAers (does that make sense?) so that it's in the middle. Of course, this may not be possible. Also, if we do SART, any lunch suggestions? (I don't know the area so well).
merider1
03-26-07, 02:53 PM
OKay, I just got word from someone that SART is not a good choice as it isn't halfway at all. Oops...my bad! I'll revisit SGRT. Sorry about that! :o I just don't know many flat routes.

I spoke with Vicki about doing this ride. We'll have to see if we can have our daughter stay at grandma's house Saturday night. If so, we are in!

Just a suggestion for your ride start - something in between LA and OC - Marina Pacifica in Long Beach. You can catch the SGRV just up the street (I think it's 2 blocks away headed East on 2nd).
You can do the SGRV up so far, maybe Whittier and then cross over to the LART and end up back in Long Beach, ride back through Belmont Shores to Marina Pacific.
I used to do a 80 mile Loop starting at the Marina and taking the SGRV up to San Dimas, crossing over to LART and riding back down through Long Beach. Haven't done that in 15 years but I'm sure some folks have. I know that probably too long a distance for this ride, but it can easily be modified to fit any distance you want to travel.

Thanks, Pam. Excellent suggestions. I've also thought of starting in Whittier and riding Rio Hondo out a ways and back. I'm trying to keep this under 40 though, so unless there is a trail that makes a loop with little mileage, it will be out and back for sure.

Definately under 40. too bad we're kinda spread out between LA and OC ''cause you know what would be a great route? The first part of Cool Breeze. Ventura to Rincon (if starting at the Harbor) is about 14 miles along the beach and flat as a pancake. Add in a little zip over to Carpentera and turn around and poof, there is 35-40 miles. Lots of places to eat at the Harbor or drive 15 minutes south to Camarillo where there is a Soup Plantation who won't care how anyone is dressed (or smells!). Or everyone brings food and we eat on the grass at Harbor Village... there is often music on the weekends.
The drawback is that this is a longer drive to get to if coming from OC.

Actually if you want short and flat and have fun stuff to do - start at Marina Pacifica and ride South to Huntington Beach - have coffee somewhere on Main Street (or somewhere near by) and then ride back. That's definitely flat ( as about as flat as you can get) and under 40 miles (you can extend mileage by going inland). .
Or maybe starting at El Dorado Park and catching the River Trail there
Regardless I'm sure you'll come up with a fun ride. If I didn't have a mountain bike ride scheduled that day I would join you. If it rains that week - and the MTB ride cancels, I'll try and make it. I might be able to do flat and about 40 miles.

Okay, so now there is a competing ride (the GMR ride). Some of you who said you wanted to do this have expressed that you are willing to do the GMR instead. Thoughts from the femmes? I don't want to cancel if there are enough joining who want the original ride, but if you guys are okay with doing GMR on that Sunday, we can either reschedule the femmes ride or combine the two. Any thoughts?
jschen
04-11-07, 12:38 PM
Between those two choices, I think we should reschedule. GMR is not exactly the type of route you had in mind for the femmes ride, and such a route would limit participation.
