Introductions - Hello from (soon-to-be) Rhode Island!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi! I'm new to cycling; I just bought a used bike from a friend (Cannondale) and after a few rides I love it. I stumbled upon these forums as I was looking for info about this sport, and after reading through a few threads I'm so impressed by how friendly and helpful you all are! I'm hoping to stay involved in the sport; I was a competitive DI rower in college, and a year out I miss the hours of aerobic activity I used to do each day. I've been running this year, but cycling takes you so much faster, so much farther -- and, I can ride for 2 hours without killing my feet! Plus, the burn in my quads as I (slowly, for now) attempt to climb hills brings me back to the days of erg tests and 2k races. What a great sport!
I'll be moving to Rhode Island in a couple of weeks and I'm hoping I'll be able to connect with a club or group there.
Well, that's my intro -- it seems like this is a terrific sport with a lot of great people, and I hope to be around for a while, even though for now I'll probably be asking a lot of dumb beginner questions.

Welcome Liz. Good luck in finding a club to ride with. Riding with a group with really help you improve your bike riding skills.

Welcome, Liz

The people on this forum are very helpful and seldom condescending.

As a professor of mine used to say, "There are no dumb questions. However, I see lots of dumb answers."

Welcome Liz.. Wondering where you are from at present. ? I have a special attraction for New England. Been there three times.. Welcome to the Ocean State.. Riding up through the Cape and into the rural areas of Massachusetts and Connecticult and Little Rhody will be special for the scenery. First time- almost got married at Sturbridge Village, Mass. , but instead we choose upstate New York.
Great terrain and the cycling- have a great time.
As to finding a local bike club. Surely your local bike shop will be of help. Otherwise- the closest bike advocacy group usually has web sites and steer you towards the appropriate bike club. Welcome and enjoy your time.
Will be envious when your autumn riding comes about. I would like to cycle Vermont, but for the inconvenience of putting a bike on a plane.
