Went out for a ride today. In the friggin rain. 10 minutes in, gears start skipping. Trying to adjust rear deraileur, I discover one chain link is not rotating. I took it off at home and cleaned it and cleaned it with solvent, but it still is sticky.

I have 1500 miles on this chain. Should I repair it? How long should a chain last? Can you take one link out of this thing and put in some of the spare link?

The record chains technicaly are not designed to have links put back together with a chain tool, but I heard of people doing it. They have that special connection link you are supposed to use. 1500 miles seems a bit short for a chain, is it stretched? That is the first thign I would check, if in doubt replace it though.

Sounds like you have developed a tight link somehow or another. Try lubing the link liberally and see if it frees up any. If not, then use a small blade screwdriver and insert it in between the plates and twist it. This basically just puts the plates back where they need to be for the link to move freely. Dont separate the link completely just loosen it.

Campy has had problems with the special link and now says you can push a pin out and back in like the old days.
To unkink a link you can also grab the chain on either side of the stuck link, twist it to a ninety degree angle a the kink and twist it back and forth.
