Bicycle Mechanics - Rattle from 105?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Does anyone else get the rattle from the shifter(left) on their 105 flight deck? Does anyone have a fix?
Also is it possible to fix the down shift from the middle ring onto the small ring? I will push to take out some trim and the derailleur will drop all the way down. It is very tight. Sometimes it will work but I have to really be trying to NOT push to hard. Fix?

First make sure that the brake is returning to its fully retracted position thereby pulling the lever back into its proper position (keeping it from bouncing around while riding). Excess friction in the cable or housing due to age or poor routing can keep the lever from fully retracting and sometimes causes a rattling. The other possibility is that the nameplate on the shifter has come loose. Depending on the age of the lever you may have a section of the name plate broken off in which case I would replace it, or you may have a loose screw underneath the nameplate that needs tightening.
Pop off the nameplate and tighten the screw.
