I want to get the family away for a few days away from Seattle to hang out. See the sun would be a definite plus. We of course want to drag along the bikes :-) any ideas? What is eastern washington or eastern oregon in mid-april?

Do we need to drive all the way to Vegas to see the sun?

Eastern Oregon (Painted Hills area) is gorgeous. It's deep into Oregon though.

Over in ncw the riding gets pretty decent in April, there is always a wind factor as long as the snow is sitting up in the Cascades, this week I've hit one windy day in three rides. Cool in the morning but mid-morning on has been hitting 60 degrees to 70 plus. You mentioned family so I would look at Wenatchee for their loop ride, it's only 15 miles but it catches several parks along the Columbia River. You can use it for a starting point to launch up the Columbia to Entiat [great bakery] or Chelan for 50 to 100 miles, I don't know if the bus system has their bike carriers on yet but mon.-sat. they can bring you back from Chelan or Leavenworth if you don't want to do an out and back. You can also, of course ride up to Leavenworth from Wenatchee which will get you 40-50 miles round trip. The sun is only a little over 2 hours away.
