I posted before about adjusting my headset (small amount of play). After looking at numerous websites and even ORDERING A DVD HOW-TO, .... I still can't get rid of the play! I tighten the compression bolt extremely slowly waiting until the play goes away, but before the fork won't turn because it is too tight. I tightened it in extremely small segments, and the play never went away... it just locked up the fork.

Any suggestions? Could something be faulty? :(

What sort of headset do you have? Sounds like worn races and/or balls.

Ok. I have one of these. I would be pretty concerned if that happened as the frame could get damaged from excess play in the headtube. Get that beast down to your LBS ASAP. Could just be worn out cartridges though, in which case knock the old ones out and pop some new ones back in and you're good to go again. Seriously though, LBS if you value your frame.

make sure the upper cover is not bottoming out on the frame.

Are you sure the bearing cartridges are in properly?
