Fifty Plus (50+) - DC area bikers - group ride this Saturday (3/31)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Weather permitting, a few BF'ers are going to get together for a group ride this coming Saturday in the Boyds, Poolesville and Sugarloaf Mt. area of upper Montgomery County. Ride is a 47 miler, with optional loops (a ride up and down Sugarloaf doesn't take too long, for example). Meet time is 10:30 am and the ride will not be a hammerfest - nice and easy. No one gets left behind, although depending on who's coming, there may be a faster group. For those not familiar with the route, there are plenty of hills, mostly rolling ones but a few bigger ones that get your attention. Ride route/cue sheet is attached (I can provide more details if desired). Let me know if you're interested - it's beautiful in that area, very little traffic (you'll see more bikes than cars) with as many stops as necessary (we do pass a store for refueling if necessary). Hope to see some of you there!

Sounds like a great ride. I have done a 35 mile Poolseville ride before and I might come but I have not been on the bike since Dec. because of work and weather. If you have some C or CC pace riders I might make it. Picking up a new Specialized Roubaix Comp this week so a new saddle (Toupe) might be need some break in before a 47 miler (or my back side will need to break in).

If this is going to be a regular event, I will certainly join in as often as I can.

Frogman,

Hard to say what the pace will be - I'd say it will cetainly be less than a B, probably in the CC range. I usually do this at a B pace but we'll be going slower as there's at least 1 slower rider with us (my wife). The impetus of the ride is a post from the Grampster - http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=266755&highlight=grampster. This is our first ride together so I'm not sure how fast we'll be riding but because of hills, I think he'll want to take it easy.

Love to have you come - there are ways to cut the route short if needed. Plus I'd love the Roubaix - nice looking for sure. A friend may be coming along - he's thinking of buying the Toupe - so that's more reason to come!

I failed to mention the 15 pounds I have gained since the Reston Century last August. That will make the hills really interesting.
