I've got a Trek 520 on order, and it will come with Bontrager Select 700x35 tires.

I've looked at reviews of the tire and it seems not everyone likes it.

My main concern is puncture resistance.

I've used Kevlar belted tires before and they don't seem to hold up well. Punctures occur on the edge of the belt.

I have a set of Continental Ultra 2000 700x25s that produced two punctures from small glass slivers on the front tire in 30 miles. I then installed some Mr Tuffy liners and all has been perfect for at least a couple hundred miles.

So, should I keep the Bontrager 700x35s and put some tire liners in them, or should I opt for a better tire, like the Avocet Cross?

Try Specialized Airlock self-sealing tubes. I've gone over seven years now without a flat. They're a little hard to find but well worth it. Stores may try to sell you other brands but hold out for the Airlocks - you'll love them! I personally use only Continental or Specialized tires and have never had a problem with either brand.
