fork steerer tube- replaceable?

hello all, am new to moding bikes though i am an auto mechanic. i have a steel fork that is in good shape except the threads are stripped, was wondering if anyone has any advice to the possibilities of changing JUST the tube. thanks for the help!

One could explore this in various ways, like replace tube, rebuild threads, switch to threadless. Is it chromed, it is welded or lugged, is it one size or another, how valuable is the paint, etc... For what it costs to buy a decent new fork it's probably not worth it. Now if you have something of exceptional value, then sure, you can certainly find some way of getting it restored.
