Help! I have a 1990 Klein Attitude (owned from new by me). Its desperately in need of replacement headset / fork bearings and I'm having no luck finding any. There doesn't look to be any part numbers on them. They are both 2" outside diameter. Anybody know anything???

Is the bike like this? http://www.angelfire.com/hi2/thehiles/1990attitude.html If so, SWEET bike! I love the workmanship on those old Kleins....... Sorry, but I have no idea about the headset, it may be a very oddball item-

Yeah, thats my bike, but in the other red/yellow/pink colour combination. As you can see from those photos, the 'headset' consists of two push-in bearings - there are no threads involved. Its a beautiful bike, well used and much admired - oh if I could get those bearings!!!

Try these guys. I don't know much about Klein MTBs but it sounds like the same deal with the road bike headsets and reset makes some good quality adapters and replacement parts.

Interesting, a proprietary 1 3/8" headset. I assume these are sealed bearings? Without Mfg model numbers, you'll need to measure the OD, ID, and width and use that to match them. (sites like bocabearings.com). Good Luck!

The MSC Part Number that you entered could not be located.

It was just a list of bearings with 2" diameters, there was at least 4 or 5 pages of different cartridge bearings.

All I did was go the mscdirect website and searched for bearings. They have a lot of different types of cartridge ball bearings.

I'm sure if pilbeam measures the existing bearings he can find one here that is similar.

I have just learnt that I should be able to get the bearings through Trek - although they normally request that the frameset be sent back to them for bearing removal / fitment. As I have already successfully stripped it down they have agreed to send me the two bearings (£31 each!!). Will post further developments...
