Hi folks,

I've got a FS frame to build up and I could use some input on cranks. The XT looks like great value and the weight and performance get great press. It sort of locks me into shimano for a BB thou. The xtr is a lot harder to justify. I quite like the look of the middleburn RS8 which falls in the middle price wise. I'm 175lbs/75kg/just under 12 stone and will be riding mostly xc stuff but not racing

The middleburn comes in 175mm only. What other things do i need to consider for length beyond longer = more torque but your feet have to travell farther and faster and may get closer to the ground? The BB is reasonably high off the ground on this frame.

Cheers

While the XT does make you use a Shimano BB, I have not seen problems with them (Except Dura/Ace BB). It is a decent crank, light, good for cross country. I am not familiar with the MiddleBurn.

TruVaTive makes a nice set-up, but my definative favorites are Race Face's LP Turbines, or Next LP's with the carbon inserts. Their Chainrings are sweet as well. Heck, everything RF makes is top-notch!
