I will be in Buckhead in May for a week of training. I am contemplating taking the bike with me, but it's been *years* since I was in Buckhead - what are the roads like? Would it be folly to expect safe cycling for a rural guy?

It is fairly urban and the main roads have a lot of traffic but there are many side/residential roads to ride on; you might want to join one of the many group rides in the area. Check out the calendar on the Southern Bicycle League site: http://www.bikesbl.org/ Happy trails!

(Buckhead) pronounced *butthead*. ;)

You can also ask the guys (and gals??) at Peachtree Bikes (http://peachtreebikes.com/index.cfm), Free-Flite Bikes (http://freeflite.com/index.cfm), the Bicycle Link (http://www.bicyclelink.net/), and CycleWorks (http://cycleworksinc.com/index.cfm) (north Buckhead/Sandy Springs) about any rides that leave from their shops.

There's the infamous Buckhead Bellyache on Thursdays, and the Atlanta Cycling Wednesday night ride. We ride that route on Tuesdays as a women's ride, and it's a nice route with just a little traffic. Not sure if you were being literal about the rural 'guy', but if you're a gal, you can also do the Wednesday women's ride out of Peachtree Bikes. Surprisingly low traffic for an intown route, and just a couple of interesting climbs. ;)

Atlanta Cycling has a great ride. The Uber neighborhoods connecting Chastain to Peachtree Battle to Midtown are about the best place to ride in Buckhead. There are some Bike routes that connect these areas. I dont have a link, but they should be somewhere on the web. I rode some this past weekend when I was in town.
