I am thinking you have never picked up a volcanic rock... like a sulfer one.

The man reason most rocks don't smell is that your ability to smell is based on things abililty to throw off molocules - after a few billion years, are the losely connected molocules are gone.

Few natural volatiles being released, and few organic critters on their surface to create volatiles. Smells are just molecules or atoms aerosolizing and wafting around until they hit the receptor in your nose. Lichens and mosses can grow on and break down rock, creating soil, but don't smell too much either.

so let me get this straight....

people who live in glass houses shouldn't have rocks that are still throwing off molecules?

But in soil you have a lot of biological processes going on, which do smell.

Tons of rocks smell. Maybe youre nose is broken. You should probably have it taken in and looked at.
