Looking For A Good Ojai Route

I'm going to be racing in Ojai this Sunday morning, and I'm looking for a good 35-45 mile loop (or out 'n back) to do afterwards. I've been through the area on Cool Breeze and Grand Tour, but really am not familiar with the area at all. The race is being held about a mile away from the intersection of Hwy 150 & 33. Any route suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

I worked up in the mountains north of Ojai about 20 years ago, I meet the guy I was working for at a park and we headed up into the mountains and I thought my truck would NOT make it, very steep. I think the road ended at the work site, but I really don't remember, but if someone in that area knows, maybe they can help you. Ojai's in a valley with some nice hills to the north that you would LOVE! I did a quick look on Google Earth, but didn't recognize anything.

Thanks Ralph, I know there area is beautiful, and that there's great riding, just don't know where to go. I'd like some climbing, but after racing in the morning, I won't be searching out every wall I can find;) If nobody suggests anything, I'll make a route off of MS Streets & Trips, and hope for the best.

Just go north on Highway 33 as far as you want. One turnaround point is Rose Valley (actually go past Rose Valley about a mile to view the beach and all the hills you just climbed, near mile marker 27)

If that isn't enough for you, keep going, Mile Marker 31 is a nice granite wall that you may see some rock climbers. Mile Marker 38 is Wolffs Inn, don't think it is opened yet, but form there to Mile Marker 43 is the Pine Mountain climb, not very steep or anything. The view from the top (north) is great.

If you still want to go, descend down to Mile Marker 48 and the Ozena Ranger station on your right.

Turn around whenever you want.

How long of a round trip ride would it be from downtown Ojai to the top of Pine Mtn and back? I must say your Pine Mountain thread, peaked my interest, and it's not often that I get to ride up there. I was hoping that you would have some advice, as you seem to know this area, like the back of your hand. Thanks...:)

I'd say from where 33 and 150 meet, it is about 30 to the top of Pine Mountain (60 round trip). Use the mile markers I described so you know how far it is to each landmark to see if you want to take the next step.

btw, no water!!! There is a ranger station on the right side of the road at Wheeler Gorge (around mile marker 19, after the 2nd tunnel). If they are open, they will have drinks for sale. Other than that, there is none availble. So, bring a CamelBak if you have one.

Thought that sounded like Wheeler toward Lockwood Valley Rd. Did any of that area burn in last years fire?
