Foo - My worst fear: Potlick

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Tonight I have to face my biggest fear in life. I am already sweating with dread. Tonight is the dreaded cub scout banquet which entails a potluck (or potlick) supper. I hate these gross things. I never want to eat anything for fear it has a healthy layer of cat hair mixed in with the goulash.

Eat before ya go. And while there, only eat a token amount of food prepared by someone you trust.

Hehehehe! Got that right! I hate eating anything others have to offer. Last function I went to was a BBQ at a bud's house after a bike ride. He lived alone with his girlfriend. They prepared steak. I found a PUBIC in my meat (my steak). I immediately alerted my wife and the both of us became really full at the same time. I didn't say anything to any of the others. I just let them enjoy their meals!:D
I think we are going to plant a flag in the brownies we are bringing so we can find them. At least we will have something to eat.

You had to go back and edit, didn't you?
Yeah, I'm always afraid of potlucks. They usually turn out better than I think they will though. Just bring something you can be happy with enough of to have a meal. Or, yeah, fill up before.
Depending on the crowd, I bring something from Randalls, and maybe some Shiner Bock, and call it done.

Probably not to a cub scout banquet.

You're right... well there are those large machines that brew good ice tea that come in handy. (No ice tea mix... yecch.)

I would not go.

Is there some unsaid rule that everyone has to bring either potato salad or macaroni salad? I HATE potluck dinners, most people bring disgusting shiyte, they have no imagination and can't be arsed to actually make something interesting that takes effort.
The last potluck I went to was 15 years ago. Almost everyone brought god-awful bowls of mayonnaise-drenched crap. I would have preferred dank tufts of rectal pubic hair. The whole thing turned out to be a Mormon ambush.

I think the room of cub scouts would gross me out more than potluck with adults I trust

I survived. I ate packaged rolls and found some vegetables. Sort of ate a piece of fried chicken even though i don't normally eat fried food.

The last one was about 20 years ago and i'm hoping the next one will take equally as long.
I'd bring the scotch, hit it hard and fast :)

Does the loathing of potluck meals extend to restaurants where some mystery line cook is hocking up a phlegm globber into your entree?
OCB sneeze guards FTW!

I love potluck dinners. It means I get to clean out the bowels of my fridge and take out on the way over.
