I was browsing around Boeing's media site tonight, and thought I'd share. This is what the new 787 will look like when it NW and Continental start flying them in about 2 years. Pretty sweet looking if you ask me.

1st, business, and economy classes. Big windows. I doubt the airlines will actually arrange them with that much space, but it definitely looks roomy. Notice the X-box green glow on the lavatory. :rolleyes:

The flightdeck makes Star Trek look low tech. I love the faux carbon fiber accents on the overhead switch panel.

From the outside. The fancy new engines and use of carbon fiber are supposed to make it 20% more efficient than the 767.

This ungainly beast, the Large Cargo Freighter, is how Boeing gets the large parts (fuselage, wings, etc) from factories all over the world to the assembly plant in Everett, WA. It's a 747 with half the fuselage cut off, a new one riveted on, and the tail attached on hinges so it can be swung out of the way with a big forklift for unloading.

Yeah, economy is always boring. Boeing is going to offer 2 seat width options in economy: 17.2 inches for 3x3x3 seating arrangement and 18.5 inches for the 2x4x2 arrangement. You know which one most airlines are going to choose, though. But hey, at least we know the bathroom signs can glow different colors..

they join the fuselage sections less than a mile from where i work. i see the "Dreamlifters" on approach and landing quite a bit, now.

Nah, not bothered in the least. It is a known fact that the best pilots routinely get up at take off to take cool pics or get a new drink or hae a smoke in the lavatory (the can overide the alarms) or check out that hot chicks in first class. I want a hard drinking, hard living, womanizing, misogamistic, cowboy piloting all my flights.

The outside looks like a real picture added in digitally. I'm not sure if the cockpit is a CGI rendering or a physical mockup. I think it's an actual mockup for the airlines to see. There's a lot of fine details like realistically placed lights, simulated text on the heads-up display, and subtle texture cues.

Those Dreamlifters are quite Impressive looking...I live outside Wichita,we see them a lot on the eastside of town.

don't get me wrong, i love aircraft of all types. but sometimes working at the end of the runway gets old.

i only worked a half-day today, and i saw 2 747s, 4 F-16s, 2 C-130s, 1 C-17, 1 A-10, 1 Lear 60, and a Challenger 600. and i work inside.

i joke with the boss about taking a broom up on the roof to clean off the tyre tracks.

in a usual work week, i probably see at least a couple hundred takeoffs and landings, mostly military. did get to see a flight of F-22s last week. that was cool.

but the Harriers and C-5s are insanely loud.

my friend flies one of those. Still havent gone for a spin in it yet.

Technologically and cost-effectively, the differences are pretty minor. Boeing and Airbus generally leapfrog each other here and there with new generation. This is a good thing. The stiff competition keeps each party on their toes. However, Boeing appears to be much more mature, sets long-term goals and makes the resources available to keep their schedules. Airbus seems more reactionary and prey to the vicissitudes of project management, as evidenced by the 2 year delay on the A380.

The pic of that Boeing in flight is simply beautiful - those wings are just... wow.

Can do, although most of the pictures of A380 interiors I've seen are Virgin Airlines and fancier style. Not exactly how the average Joe gets from JFK to Heathrow:
