I've never really blogged. I created a blog page but have yet to blog. How often do you blog? And more importantly what got you started?

I usually post about twice a day on my commuter blog (link in signature). It's almost a commuting journal. I try to get some pictures in as well, at least a few per week.

I try to post at least once a day. I get a ton of press releases, but I try to dig a little deeper. That means chasing up people, and a lot of research. I've interviewed Dave Moulton and Tony Ellsworth, and Chris King owes me an interview. It's much harder to find something worthwhile than just post about a daily ride. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Oh, I've been doing a few product reviews, since companies are starting to send me goodies.

I started my blog well over a year ago but my posting frequency only really started to take off (one a day it seems) when I moved my blog to a webhost. They provided site stats and I was pretty surprised to see that I was getting around 20+ hits a day sometimes. The audience has to be fed! :)

Why did I start? I'm not really sure. I post book reviews, rides, etc. I guess it was one way for friends to keep up with what I was up to.

I blog when the spirit moves me. Sometimes several in a week and sometimes less.

My blog is all over the map. Nothing particular. Whatever I feel like writing. I have not blogged in awhile. But I keep at it enough to have filled up quite a bit of bandwidth with my inane and less than substantial drivel.

The one thing I have not done is post a link anywhere. I guess I was counting on accidental discovery. I need to count on something else it seems. In the 2 plus years I have been doing it, not many visitors have stopped by. I did have a flurry from some writer's group I dissed. But that was eon's ago.

Edit Note - Thanks for the goose. I just posted my first ever link to my blog. Criticism welcome.

My main website isn't a Blog at all, and I've done a lot of the same stuff you've done with product reviews, being a guinea pig for new stuff from different manufacturers, etc. I use a PHP/MySQL content management system that I wrote myself about 5 years ago. I slapped AdSense on it last year and it's been making me a few bills ever since. Not to mention free go-fast goodies for my car.

If I decided to throw a lot of energy into a blog such as yours, I could probably pull it off. I personally use mine to keep a journal of my silly adventures and mishaps. I have several reasons for taking this approach.

* First and foremost is that I love to write. I do a LOT of technical writing for work and for the site that pays some of my bills. I use my blog to keep my narrative-style writing skills up to snuff.
* I blog the way I do so that cyclist friends can see what I'm up to since I don't believe in MySpace, Face Book, and the like.
* I use it as a journal to hold myself accountable. I have a decent reader base, and I'm building frequent commenters and interactive folks. I'm hoping that they'll give me hell if I start slacking on my bike commute!
* Last, I do it to demonstrate that you don't need to be a jock to ride a bike. I first noticed this among co-workers, but it seems the public's perception of bicycles is that one must be very physically fit to ride a bicycle at all. I tell everyone I run across that they could probably ride a mile on a bicycle just fine, and they might hurt a bit the next day. After a few weeks of riding, almost anyone who's sedentary will feel better and be able to ride further with less effort.

I do really love reading some of the more professional blogs though. IndustryOutsider, Commute By Bike, and a few others are always in my daily "must read" list.

I'm a blog slacker. I go through periods where I'm blogging like mad, and then I'll go months. It depends on what's going on in my life at the time...for example, being in the middle of a divorce, for some reason it's hard for me to write at the moment. I'm down to only blogging about my double centuries and other cycling events instead of daily life stuff.

i'll post twice a week. mondays and wednesday's.

monday is a recap of weekend rides or training. wednesdays is a recap of mon/tue training and any food/nutrition/supplement findings. less frequently; tuesday or thursday is gear day.

i try to stay consistent for my many readers ;)

I try to average at least once a week. The more I'm riding or doing cycling related work, the more often I have something worth while to add.

I blog too often. I should ride more and write less.

mine is more of a journal for myself. currently i am posting once or twice a week. it will likely pick up whenever spring hits and the riding picks ups for me. later.

I generally write in mine after a race or a particularly good or bad training ride. Sometimes I'll post about a new goodie that I bought or received from a sponsor or something like that. I mainly do the blog thing to help motivate me. I hate the thought of doing nothing worth writing about for more than a few days in a row.

Honestly, I do it more for me than for anyone else. It provides me a type of motivation. What can I say, I need all of the help I can get. :o

I also use mine as a journal for my training. My goal is to record all the training I do on my blog. Easy way to keep track of progress, not much of a paper person. It works really well for me because I hate to type in- I did nothing today. I was a lazy couch potato like everyone else.

If it's around 9:30 and I haven't done anything it motivates me to go for a short jog or take a quick 5-10 mile ride. Anything is better than typing "I was a couch potato today".

Same here! It turns out that more than a few people keep on coming back to read mine and I'd hate to disappoint them so I just have to keep going with different projects and such. :)

Well I guess after asking this question the least I could do is blog in my own blog space. Or whatever it's called. So I finally did my second blog.

Thanks...it's a rough time, but there are good things too. :) He's moved on and I have as well, so we both have distractions in our life that are keeping us thinking positively! I just feel like at some point I need to blog about it, but haven't found the words yet. My blog has taken a turn from having family stories on it, to mainly being a place that I talk about my cycling events, which is fine for me right now.

Guess my blogging frequency goes up and down with how many other things I'm working on. Been hammering out code for my new cycling website (http://velobase.com) for the last two months so I hadn't posted on the blog in over a month. Need to get around to posting a bit more regularly.

everyday. I started doing it to keep me shooting photos. If I hadn't shot a photo in awhile, I had to go out and do something about it as the blog needed new posts. It has worked really well for incentive

I try and post 2-3 times a week. Sometimes more, if there is something of note. It's mostly about bicycle gear -- stuff I am reviewing -- but it's also about riding in general.

As we get closer to Interbike, more companies have been reaching out to me. I'm hoping to start posting several times a day.

I dunno... six or seven times a week, but then I delete it for three weeks at a time. Then I start over, lol.

What got me started? I suppose the thrill of someone reading it, heh.

I have a ton of things to write about, but I'm working for another site now as well, so I don't have as much time as I would like. Kinda sucks that paying the bills gets in the way...
