I've heard good things about this. It's expensive and a bit of a drive. Maybe next year, for me.

Hi Karen,
I've considered dropping by. Do you have any info on the route for the charity ride? I'd would do it with Vicki but as she is not real keen on big ole hills, I'll need to know exactly what is coming up.

Hi Sheldon,
Regarding the route, here is the e-mail I received from the orgainizers...
Karen,
The route has not yet been finalized. What I can tell you is that the ride will take you through Westlake and the surrounding areas. The course will have a couple small inclines, but nothing too severe. We hope to have a course map up in the next week or so.

Thanks for the information. It seems every ride ends up going through Hidden Valley so I won't be surprised to see that. Vicki is okay going in but has never tried the hill on the Newbury Park side. Well, first I have to see if we can get some babysitting that morning!
Sheldon
Count me in !
I would think so! Doesn't this ride start about 3 minutes from your house? :)

Wow! I always thought some of those places would make a great stage race. Not the exact routes I would have chosen, but I'm sure the ability to secure permits and road closures plays a factor in that. That road course will shake the slow riders on the rollers for sure. Very steep but very short.
I think I can handle a 25 miler, and I know the area since it was my home while I was racing as a teen. Beautiful riding!
We're out. Vicki has a work related in-service that day. So not only can she not ride, I'll be home with our pre-teen. Maybe I'll take her to the races and kid's event.

Still working out some knee or fitment (or both) problems, but I might be able to do 25 miles. Is the Thurs registration deadline for the charity ride as well, or just for the race? Either way, I should know after my ride on Thurs whether my body is screaming bloody murder or not.
NWS now forecasting rain for very late Thursday night and into Friday. Possible between storms dry out on Saturday with another wet period to follow on Sat evening.

OK I just registered for the 25 mile ride. It's pretty much a route I used to ride on a weekly basis when I lived out there. I would object to paying for it, but it's not that much and it goes towards autism. I must say, my autistic students are usually my best ones!

What is your plan for this ? Is any of your family going to do one of the rides ?

Vicki is a "no" as she has an in-service tomorrow. I'm still a bit undecided on the kid's ride. I will talk with Hillary tonight and ask her if she wants to do it. I'll PM you tonight if we're going to try it. We can meet up with the kids if that works out.

Hi All! Kind of new to the boards here. I just wanted to say this was a fun ride / great cause.....and thanks to small the group I rode with, even though we went a couple miles off course , it was a blast!

If anyone did the Time Trial up Mulholland this morning, my hats off to you. We came down Mulholland from Decker right at the end of the time trial. You were all flying up that hill!

The charity ride was nice, and the route was very friendly (the major climbs were in the first half). One of the volunteers was misinformed, though, and said that the course was marked. It wasn't, but they had provided maps anyway (and I know the area). I met some lady from Woodland Hills and a guy from nearby. I was tempted to take the beautiful lakeside detour many others were (I've ridden it many times before), but decided to be easy on my knees.
The circuit race was very nice to watch, and they did a great job of hosting it and making sure residents could get in and out without presenting a danger to the racers. Watching it made me miss the good ol' days when I raced.
I hope to see more people sign up for the charity ride next year. It's a good cause, and most of us spend more than $25 to do organized rides anyway!

Brian, were you at the Herbal Life booth at all today, wearing your SFVBC jersey? Our group ride stopped by finish area for about 30 seconds, and I thought that was you... I walked up, and the sales girl grabbed my attention, and then I noticed that my group had pulled out so I rushed back to the bike, and forgot that the reason I went over there was to see if that was you.

^ Yep, that was me, and they do grab your attention if you look their way. Turns out that's because they sell the stuff through reps apparently, kind of like Amway or something. I wanted to see what that stuff was made of. It's not bad, so I might start using it instead of the organic version of gatorade that tastes so bad I have to be dehydrated before I can will myself to sip it.
Did you do that ride up Latigo and Encinal? My knees handled Potrero today so I think I'm on my way to being able to handle longer, more hilly rides soon.

Dang... sorry to miss you. I'm sure I'll see you out at CSUN soon. We did Fernwood-Piuma.
