Road Bike Racing - fields fill up fast in the DC area

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Keep an eye on the D20 listserv... the organizers give a heads-up a few days before the races open on bikereg. We have a couple self-appointed folks on the team who forward it on to our team's yahoo group too.

You're right, though-- I signed up for BikeJam last night and 10 minutes after it opened there were 49 riders signed up. It's crazy.

C'mon down to the beach Riskus. Plenty of races in the VA Beach (D42) area that rarely fill up fast.

same with some of the races around here as well. i think bear mountain sold out in about 11 mintues. i also wanted to do a crit called grant's tomb in manhattan but it was sold out when i realized registration was open. that race ended up being cancelled due to snow...but still.

^ I saw that when I was registering! I couldn't believe that the 4's were maxed out that quick.

But do not worry, there is hope. This happened last spring and last fall as well, and it seems like at least half the field doesn't show up. I assume team leaders register their whole teams just in case they decide to show up. Can probably still snag a spot if you talk with the promoter.

Closer to home is Richmond. There's a race series that the Richmond sprint club puts on.

that race is on a round track right? If so I looked into it and I am not sure its my thing.

Yeah. .33 miles around a track. It gets dizzy sometimes but it's a fast race because there's no corners - think big fast group ride.

sounds like a crash fest, no?

No, the track is wide enough - there's some rubbin' elbows at times but you can pick your space. I've seen it run 4-5 wide without problems.

Check this race out - it's about 2 hours from N. VA (Harrisonburg). It's part of the Tour of VA:
