Bicycle Mechanics - how do i remove these? (headset/fork & crank)

newbie here so forgive me...i have an old schwinn traveller and i'm looking to take it all apart and repaint. i'm having trouble figuring out how the headset/fork come apart from the frame, and also how to remove the crankset. i'd like to remove these parts to make it easier to paint. is this possible??:)

It's unusual to see a one piece crank on a Traveller, my guess is it's not the original crank. You need to remove the lock nut at the base of the crank arm turning it clockwise not counter clockwise as you might think in the normal world of nuts and bolts. Then remove the lock washer once the nut is completly off; then pull the retainer out of the left cup; shift crankset to the right and drop the retainer out of the right cup and onto the spindle; then just wiggle the crankset out of the right side of the bottom bracket shell.

If your crank does not have the nut then you have to place a wide blade screwdriver into the left side of the lockring grove, then try first pushing it clockwise as above, if it doesn't budge then try tapping a hammer gently against the screwdriver handle to get the lockring to move. Once it's clear of the frame then slide the lockring off the crank.

Don't forget when removing pedals that the left side pedal loosens by turning clockwise, and the right side pedal loosens by turning counterclockwise.

The headset is easy just loosen the top stem bolt on the handle bar stem about 2 turns, then strike the stem bolt with a squarely sharp blow of a mallet to jar loose the wedge at the bottom of the stem, this you can tell when the stem bolt drops (don't wack it too hard or you could bend the bolt, usually a tap is all thats needed but progress up from there just not real hard, if it's stuck you may have to spray some loosening fluid like Liquid Wrench); lift up the handlebars to remove the stem from the frame. Remove the headset locknut by turning it counterclockwise. Lift the lockring off the adjustable cup; then simply grasp the adjustable cup and unscrew it with your fingers, if it's too tight then you may have to buy a locknut plier. Next you have to remove the loose ball bearings then flip the bike upside down while holding the fork firmily in place, then pull the fork out of the head tube and remove those loose ball bearings; and your done!
