I have an older Klein with a 7 ring cassette. I have a pair of Rolf wheels with a 9 ring cassette. I want to put the 7 ring cassette on the Rolf wheels and mount those on the Klein.

My questions:

Is this possible?

What tools will I need?


I am thinking I will need a spacer for the cassette. I have no idea what tools I will need.

Yes, it is possible if the 7-speed cassette is HyperGlide (early ones were Uniglide).

You will need a HG cassette tool, a chain whip, and a wrench that fits onto the cassette tool.

You will also need a 4.5mm spacer to go on behind the 7-speed cassette.

7 speed was 126mm spacing. 9 speed will need 130mm spacing. Klein frame aluminum? Probably not recommended that you stretch it out. May want to search or repost for info on this aspect. Hate for you to mess up a nice frame.

Many 7-speed frames were spaced 130mm or 128mm. If it was originally built with 7-speed STI shifters chances are it is 130mm It should be measured.
