Nice report Brandy! We were wondering when you'd come by on Vireo's wheel, but somehow I didn't notice you two when you passed us, maybe I was too busy fiddling with my jacket? I thought we'd see you at CP2.

Did you time it yourself? I didn't see any names on the results that looked like you in the timed category.

Only the riders leaving at 7:30 a.m. were timed John, I left at 6:40 a.m. by George's watch. So yes, I timed it myself.

I have a feeling if I ever do a double century I will look like "tina" when the ride is over  no lipstick, no smiling, no chit chatting, just a scruffy face with my hair all over the place. :o and for all of you that are thinking to yourself... ( that's how she looks now ) :p ha ha said it first.

Yes, and I'm woman enough to admit on here that I'm appalled you'd even mention or write the above in any context. Where is the Brandy I met at Joshua Tree?! The sweet, lovely, fun woman...

Otherwise, nice report, Brandy. I'm thrilled for you that you worked through nausea, etc. and that Vireo pushed and excited you in immeasurable ways. I hope you continue. I'm not one on here for competition (certainly not to the degree of mentioning passing fellow BFers and being thrilled about it) and am never satisfied to "pass" people on rides unless it is stop, say hi and take a picture of them (or ask them if they need anything). Generally, I'm thrilled to see them for camaraderie and support. No one out there on Saturday was a Pro that I'm aware of and we're all just amateur cyclists. Many of the folks on here I now consider my friends as well as fellow riders - ones I hope who will eventually ride their own double centuries (if they haven't already) and have their own amazing experiences that come with these epic rides. Therefore, I'm genuinely excited to see them on rides of any length. But that's just me and I realize that I ride these miles for the experiences (and the company - of which I had the best on both this ride and Butterfield) and very clearly not for the time or thrill of passing others. On the next double, I'll remember your competitive edge, Brandy, and just nod my head at you as you fly by on Vireo's wheel.

whatever

Ah, I didn't pay any attention to the whole timed aspect since I wasn't going to do it myself.

Did you see Keith's time?

Yeah but when the real jams come on I have to ride at warp speed to hear them....they energize you  and at that point all I see are your lips moving and maybe hear a few faint musical bars :p

What's it work out to be, about 20.6 mph? I wonder if he made any wrong turns or missed any exits (ahem) like we did? :D

He passed us at CP2, right? Someone, Mary I think, said he was at CP2 but I figure he didn't spend the 20-30 minutes we did there.

Where is that sweet, lovely, fun woman? ME...give it a rest, seriously. She's right here...busting her ass to improve on the bike.

The fact that none of us was a "Pro" out there does not mean that no one had an objective when they started that ride. We were obviously out there with different goals on Saturday...I'm not belittling yours, you were out there to have a good time with friends. I was out there to challenge myself to bring in a better time than I had on Butterfield. This wasn't a social ride for me. You said in the thread last week that I was going to pass you and when I finally did (because I had no idea if, when or where it would happen on the course) it was a good benchmark for how I was doing. You can be appalled, but I was being honest about how I felt at that moment.

And I'm sure all the riders on here appreciate your honesty, Brandy. And when you ride your first double century without George pushing you up hills (literally, as you and George have both posted) or on his wheel pulling you (for the vast majority of the ride, as you've posted), then please let us know the results you have out there pushing yourself. Until then, I wish you safe and enjoyable rides with George, and I sincerely wish you the best on your goals. :)

Do you know how long he's been riding?

It occurred to me last night while chatting with my wife about this ride that I did my first century in January, which means I did my first century and first double century less than 90 days apart.

It's a great feeling isn't it? I did the exact same thing back in 1994. I did my very first century, the Solvang Century, and three months later did my very first double century, The Grand Tour. :D

Yes, please. And I'm going to pinch you when I see you if you keep up the slum talk about yourself. You are a very strong rider, woman, and you look gorgeous before, during and after any ride. I don't think I've ever seen you sweat. Oh, and you have nice breath. :D

Oh, it's already calling. I'm squashing that for now though. I've got some double metrics scheduled this year, and next year I'll be looking to do 1+ of the KOM series, so I'm really focusing more on climbing this year.

After that, I'll reconsider these doubles. I need to get a LOT more comfortable on the bike though. I'm gold for about 5 hours, then I just feel pain. I expect that'll subside as I put on the miles. Til then, it's just not worth the thought.

It really is a great feeling. I looked back at that goals thread, and I wanted to do a double towards the end of the year. I have to give Mary a lot, I mean A LOT, of credit for me finishing this double. If it wasn't for her telling me I could complete it, I never would've signed up or attempted it. Even though I still didn't really believe I'd be able to do it, I mean my longest ride was only 105 miles or so and I really suffered towards the end, her confidence in me kept me going and kept me from backing out, which I thought of doing many times during the week leading up to it.

That's very sweet of you, John,:o but YOU rode that puppy (and very strong might I add). And let me repeat, you and the other men could have finished sooner had you guys not been there keeping me going. I'm not as fast as you guys, especially on the hills and...well...there is this whole llamma picture taking thing I've just got to do...:p

If I had been signed up to ride it and you weren't coming, it's quite possible that I would've backed out. However, now that you've helped me pop my cherry, I see quite a few doubles that I didn't think I'd be able to do this year as being achievable.
