So... I got a call tonight from the Lakewood Police Dept. Seems my truck was involved in an accident. Yes... the truck that hasn't moved under it's own power in over a year.

My truck is a '79 Chevy Blazer 4x4, Lifted, 31" tires... it's HUGE. Someone in a little tiny car (think Geo Metro style hatch back) hit it so hard they knocked it over 70 feet  over a curb, across the grass, and into the parking lot of the apartment complex next door.

I can't even imagine how fast he must have been going to do that to my truck with the parking brake on.

I was wondering what happened to your truck?? I hate to say it but anyone that parks their car on 4th street is VERY likely that it would get hit. Cole and I seen it happen many of times. :(

Sorry about it. :(

Sorry to hear about it as well. Perhaps you will get some $$ out of it? Money for your next bike maybe? Just trying to find the silver lining so to speak.

That's what I'm hoping for. :)

Hmmmm, you sure you had the parking brake on? :D

Damn, 70 feet though. Was it parked facing a downhill? Maybe the force of the impact broke the parking brake and/or the tranny.

Yep, hope there's a silver lining.

It went UPHILL first, and over a curb, across the grass. It stopped on a slight downhill... if the parking brake wasn't working, it would have kept rolling.

Then that's just crazy. Demonic possession perhaps?

Actually BM I saw you yesterday on your cell right across the street by your truck. I hadn't realized it was you until I went on my ride. :)

So what did the police say about the person that hit your truck??

Not much, and I don't have the police report yet. All they told me was that they weren't sure if he was going to make it. While reviewing the requirements to get the police report they said that if it was a traffic accident involving a fatality then a sergeant would have to sign off on it before the report could be released.

When I called to find out if the report was ready, they told me they were waiting for a sergeant to approve it. :( Doesn't look good.

Thank God you weren't in your truck and that no one else was injuried.

I've been there before.... I had a 1962 Dodge pick-up.....Great truck I had fully restored.. IT WAS AWSOME.... Then on night while eating dinner my dad and I heard a huge BANG followed by a scretch went outside to see what it was and my truck was gone..... She hit me with a 95 chysler cirus and pushed my truck 38 feet UPHILL she went 100 feet before her car stoped...... I was glad to see there were no injuries......... What makes it worse is when she lied to the cop...she said she was doing 15 MPH, The cop threw the book at her.... And the whole reason my truck was hit...She was reaching for a CD to listen to...

Update: I was contacted by the guy's insurance company today. They're sending someone out to appraise the damage to my truck. Said they're going to pay for towing, storage, damages, etc.

I still don't have a copy of the police report... the insurance company had to get their copy from the guy's next of kin, the ONLY person they've released it to so far. (No, the guy didn't make it)

I still don't know if he was drunk, high, or just plain stupid. *shakes his head sadly*
