Mountain Biking - Looking for new Wheels

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So as some of you may have seen, I can't use my new fork with my wheels. I had wanted to upgrade my wheels anyways and I thought now would be a better time than ever. I am really lost on what good wheels are. I know building your own is the best way to go but I don't have the money to invest into really nice wheels. So I'm wondering what you guys would recommend for around 500 dollars (cheaper the better). I want something that has good price to performance ratio. In case you don't know, I'm riding a 2006 kona stuff. http://www.konaworld.com/bikes/2006/stuff.htm

How about $250 for a really nice wheelset? 1/2 of your allotted budget isn't bad.
The Halo Combats would work very well on that Kona.

Check out the Azonic Outlaws, Transition Revolution, Performance Loco wheelset. All three of these use the same rim.
I would get the Azonic because the rear hub can convert to a 12mm through axle. You never know, eventually that might come in handy.
