Hi everyone,
I'm James, 22, studying Illustration in Bristol, but "home" will always be Wales :). I'm mainly here to do research - cycling is something I really want to get into in a big way. Illustration keeps me mainly indoors, and I just want to get out there and also get in shape; I'm 6'2 and going on 200lbs, but I'm starting a diet....after easter hahaha. I'm really not sure what I'm looking for at the moment - I'll be wanting to cycle to and from uni, but that's only a mile or so. I'd also like to go a lot farther. I'd also like to get off road (got to make the most of the welsh mountains!). So I don't know what to look for - I think maybe I want too much from one bike.

edit: my budget is pretty small - £250 or $500.

Sorry if that was a heavy intro...
And thanks! Look forward to becoming a regular here...
James

Hello James, where are you in Wales? I've got relatives in Clynderwen.

That's not a heavy intro at all, but you might want to spend some time looking through threads about hybrid/cyclocross bikes. It's either that or get two bikes...:D .

Welcome to BF!

East Hill - I'm from Brecon, mountain bikers paradise. I've been looking at hybrids for a while now, I've found a few which could fit the bill. I think a road/pavement commuting bike is predominantly what I need, as it would be used every day. I reckon I could just pick up a cheapie or rent a mountain bike when I come back home every few months. So I just want something for moving round the city on now (and perhaps holland - see how summer goes). As much as I'd love a cyclocross, they won't fit in my budget.

Hobartlemagne - Oh yes. I'm all about close-harmonies.

SkyPilot--have you checked out this:

You may be able to get a bike more cheaply than you think...

Cool. All I need now is a job! I've really been lazy, living off my student loans. But now it's time for action!

I thought that might pique your interest! If I were in the UK I would have already taken advantage of that program, believe me :D . So get off your bum and get cycling  .
