I picked this Triumph up today. The price was right--$10, and I rode it out of the thift store. It rides and shifts as is. What can you tell me about this thing? Any ideas on age? Is this related to Triumph the auto/mortorcycle company?

For $10 in rideable condition you did well. Here's what Sheldon Brown says about Triumph:

"Triumph was a second rank brand. Raleigh bought the bicycle rights to the name from the Triumph motorcycle company in 1954. There's no connection to Triumph automobiles."

$10=good deal IMHO. What is the date on the hub? That is definitely one of the Raleigh built Triumphs so it is very close in quality to a similarly aged Raleigh Sports.

I just looked at the hub, its stamped "71" so I assume 1971. Definatley Raleigh derived, tires say Raliegh Record and the stem has the Raliegh logo.

I wish it was a mens frame!!!

I wish it was a mens frame!!!For running errands I prefer a woman's frame. I have big Wald Newsboy baskets on a '73 Raleigh Sports. I want to add a white handlebar basket with flowers.

Why? No self respecting adolescent male would be caught dead on it. Most bike thieves are adolescent males. I rarely lock it

Hmmmm, good idea ya got there! Think Ill dress up one of my womens frame bikes for those quick late night runs to the Chinese resturant! :D

that's exactly why i like women's frames for around-town-beaters!

One of ours has a wicker basket...does that count;) And just for the record we have at least 9 step thru frames out of the 26 or so bikes hanging around here
