General Cycling Discussion - Bike Pro Log Withdrawal

Has anybody heard what happened to BIke Pro Log. It has been off line for over a week now. I have miles to add. I don't want to consider living without it.

It was actually up for about an hour earlier today...

I've given up pretty much..Way to inconsistent. Plus I don't keep any log other than bikeprolog, so if I don't get it logged right away, I never get back to it. I wish I new something about programming.

I too, suffer from bikeprolog withdrawl..It is really a cool site.

I used to keep my bike ride records on a yellow legal pad, but starting in January, I switched to Bike Prolog. As of now, they have been down for over two weeks, and they have all my records which I have meticulously entered. Even if they come back, I think I'm going back to the yellow pad method. Sometimes Stone Age methods are better than hi-tech.

can't you do something up in excel??

Doesn't seem like it would be that hard to tally your miles???

Sure, setting up our own spread sheet is easy. But there are many other features on Bike Pro Log. I love all the different pie charts and bar graphs for time and distance. I like keeping track of the many other riders that also post on the site and the seasonal challenges. It really is a great site with many bells and whistles that I like to use.

I created a web site that does a great deal of what bike pro log does/did... it's free and easy to use... You can also add running and walking as well as your cycling workouts.

I'm going to put in a plug for another bike log site. Not nearly as comprehensive as Bike Prolog, but it's got some other good stuff going for it. I've been using it for about 2.5 years now, and I don't think it's ever crashed.

Along with those, I also found www.bikejournal.com which I found to be pretty good, nice and simple.

I have been using four methods of keeping track of my miles. Bike Pro Log, my Exel spreadsheet/Linux spreadsheet, and in two programs on the palm top, once in the day by day calendar, and a program I got as shareware from Tucows.com. The shareware is cool cause it will graph my miles against my goals for the week and the month, way cool stuff. It will calculate the avg speed as well and time a ride.
It won't back up on the desk top though, that's why I use the calendar on the PDA, and then type it all in a spreadsheet. I use to write it down but couldn't keep the little sheets of paper straight, as to what's been loged and hadn't, cause there always seems something more important than sitting down at the computer right after a ride: shower, food, TV for a few.

yea, I'll be around. I've used many of the online stuff for years and got tired of the on again/off again nature to the sites. Also it seemed that when it got good and the user count went up... the site admin starts charging for usage. So I thought that I could build a site... so those are two things you will not find at activebody.org

I'm planning on adding swimming as well as lifting to round out the site.

I like Bikejournal, very nice. I like the "configure your journal" feature when you sign up.

I just added bikeforums.net as a club to bikejournal, the password for the club is "superriders" if any of you folks care.

FYI - Site is back up, not 100% functional, but the journal is working.

Hey Bike Prolog dude, if you visit this site. Thanks for your effort.

With Bikeprolog a shadow of its former self (no graphs/stats/challenges etc.) I will switch to Bikejournal, which also is lacking in the graph and stats area, but where I can download my journal to make my own graphs and stats off-line. Since that feature disappeared from Bikeprolog a couple of months ago I still have to re-write all my entries, so I might just as well do it on Bikejournal.

I like the club feature, but it's a bit lonely :).

Hi all,

I'm the creator of bikejournal.com (http://www.bikejournal.com). Thanks for checking it out. While emailing clubs in the past couple months about bikejournal, I ran into a link to Bike Pro Log and figured, uh oh, someone's beaten me to the punch! ;) His site looks really nice. (I didn't join for obvious reasons, though) :)

But anyways, regarding graphing, I wanted to add that last year, but didn't have enough time to research the best approach, so I ended up with an extremely simple bar graph tool that ran off some third-party java code. So all that to say that I WANT to add graphing capability to bikejournal as soon as is possible. Guess I need to do some further research. Might be easier to just create an offline package in C++ or Java to create the graphs. But I'd like to integrate it into the website proper.

Regarding stats, the stat comparison tables currently on the site are for mileage totals between other members, clubs, and states. I also created 9 other categories of comparison (longest ride, best average speed, etc.) but most of those tables aren't available to members yet - I just haven't had the time to optimize those comparison operations yet. So much work to be done... ;)

Thans for providing the bikejournal website, it is very nice.

Also, The Bike Forums team has been at #5 in the team standings for the last month or two. (we moved up to #4 briefly, but the druid city bicycle club took it back..)

I have only contributed 40 or so miles, but way to go guys! Csson & Dave have almost singlehandedly got us "in the money" having gone around 3k miles each!!

I'm upgrading the journal to allow riders to select the actual bike they rode (rather than the general 'bike type' categories) In doing so, I'm verifying all user-entered bike makes before proceeding. If "Farmer John" from the bikeforum team reads this - is the Jack Hammer a bike manufacturer or just a custom name you put on your bike..? Thanks!

ps: Just a reminder - if any of you folks wants to upload their complete journal instead of adding a lump-sum entry to kick off your journal, just send me (admin@bikejournal.com) an excel or .csv file of your rides to date and I'll run it thru a script to update your journal.

Yup, Jack Hammer is a little guy in Michigan. Mark designs mountain, road and tri bikes. the actual welding takes place in colorado (Chris Herting at 3D Racing, who welds up more custom frames than you'd imagine), then back to little old South Lyon Mi for finishing.
