when i twist them hard enough they turn blue
not a big fan of aluminum spoke nipples. They tend to make truing a big PITA. Now, if they made them in brass, oh yeah.
Of course, I have nipples of steel, wanna see?
*lifts up shirt*
I think salmon is the best way to describe them.
Oh, you meant spoke nipples? They're silver.

Wow, that looks pretty much identical to the plumbing section in the hardware store I've worked at for the last two summers. Hardware stores are such naughty places, what with all the nipples, nuts, and caulks.

I seem to have lost my purple nurple, but it shall be found!
My bikes all have chrome ones at the moment....tough to find brass in colors (heavy riders looooooove brass nipples).

My nipples match the inside edge of the rim; black with black rim on one set (pictured), silver with siver rim on the other:

You guys are messed up. I honestly want to know if I should have regular nipples, black or colored. The wheel is black on the inside but the edge is alu and the spokes are silver colored.

Color them with a sharpie after you get the wheel.

If it is done correctly, it is customizing, not Jimmy Jamming! I think with some masking tape and care you could get a new effect with sharpies. Guys use them all the time to cover scratches, etc.
That said, I once saw a Litespeed built up with all anodized purple fasteners, nipples, etc. Raw titanium and purple were about the only colors on the bike. It was very striking. So I would say pick a nice color and go with it, esp. if your wheels are being hand built.
BTW, congrats on the new roadie!!!

Silver. Or I could have it painted. Still not too late. The order to make the frame just went in today.

It's a UMB, Jsharr. I ain't got no roadie. Hmmmph. But thanks anyway! :)

Seriously.

Call me boring, but I'd want it to either match the spoke, or the anodizing of some other accents on the bike. Brass nipples are a bit more durable than aluminum, so that might be another consideration.
I'd go with silver, based on what I know now.

I wanted to do a Chris King red head set and hubs but that was part of the cutting down in components. I figured the frame was most important first. But he has a "leather type" of bar tape that matches the nipples. He has blue, red silver and black tape. And when I held it up to it, it went pretty good in terms of color matching.

I use red for alloy nipples, it helps me keep track of which are which, I use brass nipples on rear wheel drive side and on my winter wheelset. I've never had an alloy nipple fail in the 4 or 5 years I've been using them, spokes yes nipples no.
But this thread isn't about nipple failure is it?

Siu, send mswantak a PM. He's in San Leandro and does super work with decals. He does the art no-charge, and is very reasonable. The only downside is that it might take him a few weeks to get them for you.
