Hey there! I'm here, and I have big ambitions to step up the cycling scene around Louisville. I live in Old Louisville and am one of many scruffy cyclists who ride old, often singlespeeded, road bikes around the city proper as a main mode of transportation. My car was stolen in October and this has been my first car-free winter-- and I'm so glad it happened. My restaurant cook's wages go so much farther without the added expense of a car, and I got to be outside a lot more than I normally would have in winter. Also, everyone thinks I'm all bad-ass because of it! I've bought a set of bike tools, and fixed up my old Schwinn Traveller into a truly sweet single-speed steel steed, and this summer I'm going to visit bike co-ops in other cities to really learn how it's done. I love this city with a passion and I dream of getting ALL potential cyclists on the road!

If you want to go on a nice bike ride in Louisville, go down to the river. Starting at Waterfront Park, you can take a dedicated bike path called the Riverwalk along the river's edge. It goes along the river for about thirteen miles, all the way out to Chickasaw Park in the west, and it passes through many parks and historic neighborhoods. Great views and great sights of the back porch of an old river town! After your ride, check out the BBC Taproom at Clay and Market, right near the skate park. It's a local brewery that makes some damn fine craft beers, and I always like to get a pint at their laid-back little taproom after riding around down by the river.
If you like what you see, check out 8664.org (you'll see yard signs and graffitti everywhere for this site) and check out how monumentally foolish our leaders are.

Calico,
Hey man I'm from Louisville and have just recently gotten into riding. I live in Lexington now (school and whatnot) but absolutely adore Louisville. The riverwalk is such a great ride, although last time I went we had to detour through portland to get there because of the 64 construction. What bike shop do you go to? I went to Bardstown Road Bicycle Co. the last time I was in town and they were incredible. Nicest people ever, incredibly affordable and helpful. Maybe I'll see you out there sometime.
